Unity Housing and YourPlace Housing are coming together to support more tenants.

On 1 June 2026, YourPlace Housing officially joined Unity Housing, bringing two organisations with shared values together to support more South Australians with safe, affordable housing.

For tenants, this means the strength and security of a larger organisation, access to more services and support, and the comfort of continuing to see many familiar faces along the way.

Not only will Unity Housing now support more than 6,500 people in 3,700 homes across the state, but we’re also launching a dedicated Specialist Disability Housing Program focused on providing more choice and tailored support for people with disability.

Unity Housing has welcomed former YourPlace Housing tenants, along with almost all employees who chose to transfer.

Former YourPlace Housing CEO Geoff Slack (pictured left) will step into the role of Interim CEO following Unity Housing CEO Matthew Wodward’s (pictured right) retirement in July.

✨ From worn-out to wow ✨

Our tenant Jason at The Terrace Boarding House spent six weeks recently working his magic on two tired old bench seats – and the results speak for themselves!

With more than 30 hours of dedication, Jason rolled up his sleeves and brought his skills as a French polisher and furniture restorer to life. Starting with a thorough pressure clean, then sanding, staining (with multiple coats!), and even replacing all the screws, Jason went the extra mile – carefully removing each panel to make sure every detail was just right. The metal frames got a refresh too, giving these benches a whole new look and feel.

But for Jason, it was about more than just the benches. “I’ve really enjoyed the process," he says. "It’s got me out of bed every day and given me something to do.”

Now proudly back in place, the benches are a beautiful addition to The Terrace and have already received lots of love from both tenants and staff.

Amazing work, Jason! Thank you for making a real difference to the space and community.

Community spirit was on full display last week as Unity Housing, the Millicent Lions Club, and Wattle Range Council teamed up to celebrate exciting upgrades at Millicent Lions Park.

From brand-new accessible public toilets to an already loved playground, veggie garden, fruit trees, book swap library, and goal posts, this space just keeps getting better for everyone! 🌿⚽📚

🥒 What happens when a staff member brings in a giant zucchini? You turn it into a reason to cook, share, and connect! 🥒

At Unity's latest monthly cooking group, tenants got hands‑on making spinach and zucchini tots, and there was even extra zucchini for one tenant to take home and turn into chocolate zucchini muffins.

Our cooking group is all about getting involved, coming together, sharing food, and building new skills in a friendly, relaxed space. As regular group member Sharan puts it: “It’s a nice, good way to meet people and try new food that we sit down and eat together.”

Each month we try new recipes – from pastas and soups to cakes and salads – while building confidence, teamwork, and having fun along the way.

🎉 Fringe fun for our boarding house tenants 🎉

Over four amazing nights across February and March, 29 of our boarding house tenants headed out to the Adelaide Fringe thanks to the generosity of event organisers who donated free tickets, and what an unforgettable experience it was!

From Queen and Fleetwood Mac tribute concerts to jaw‑dropping acrobatics, sharp British comedy, and a hilarious theatre take on The Importance of Being Earnest, our tenants got to enjoy a fantastic mix of Fringe magic.

And the standout moments?
🎤 Shannon was invited on stage to sing during the Queen tribute show (the lead singer picked her out when he heard her singing along)
🎭 Jerome was hand‑picked to act out a scene during the comedy play

It was a fun few nights full of laughter, music, surprises, and connection. A huge thank you to the Adelaide Fringe organisers for making these special experiences possible.

What an incredible night at the Community Housing Art Awards (CHARTS) on Thursday 4 December! Unity Housing staff and our talented tenants joined community housing providers from across the state to celebrate creativity and community.

With 127 entries in total – 38 from Unity – we’re thrilled to share that 14 Unity finalists made the cut! But that’s not all…our amazing tenants took home 5 of the 13 awards! 🏆👏
