Getting outside does something that's hard to replicate anywhere else. 🌿

Fresh air, new surroundings and a change of scenery can do wonders for confidence, mood and social connection. Community access isn't just about going places. It's about building the skills and confidence to feel comfortable in the world around you.

Whether that's exploring a new suburb, heading to a local market or just spending time somewhere different, these moments matter more than they might seem.

Meet Jordan! 👋

Jordan is a second-year Occupational Therapy student at the University of Adelaide and he brings a pretty remarkable background to the role. He has represented Australia three times in canoeing and has competed across football, basketball, athletics, swimming and cricket. That kind of sporting journey builds something you can't teach: resilience, adaptability, and knowing how to show up for a team. 🏅🛶

He supports participants with youth mentoring, fitness, community access, social engagement and building positive routines. Basically, if you want to get active and get out in the community, Jordan is your guy.

Outside of work you'll find him building Lego, making pizza, watching Star Wars or spending time with his dog Donnie. 🐶

We're really glad he's part of the Phamily. 💚

Interview nerves are real. And they don't mean you're not ready. 💪
Here's what most people don't realise: employers aren't looking for perfection. They're looking for someone who shows up, communicates clearly and genuinely wants to be there.

A few things that actually help:
Practice out loud. Not in your head, actually say your answers. It feels awkward at first but it works. 🗣️
Prepare questions to ask them. It shows you're thinking about the role, not just any role.
Remember it's a conversation, not an interrogation. You're figuring out if they're the right fit for you, just as much as they are for you.

Got a plan review coming up? Here's how to make it count.
Your NDIS plan should reflect where you're at now and where you want to go next. But walking into a review unprepared can mean missing out on supports you actually need.

Three things to do before your meeting:
Document your progress. What's working? What's changed since your last plan? Real examples matter more than general statements.
Gather your evidence. Reports from your support team, goals you've achieved, new challenges that have come up. The more specific, the better.
Know what to ask for. If your employment goals have shifted, your daily living needs have increased, or you want to build new skills - say it clearly.

Today is World Autism Day. 💙

And we want to say something simple: autistic people don't need to be fixed. They need to be understood, supported, and given real opportunities to thrive.

That looks different for everyone. For some, it's building the confidence to explore their community. For others, it's finding work that actually fits how their brain works. For some, it's just having someone in their corner who gets it.

At Phamily Family, that's what we show up for every day.

It's Neurodiversity Celebration Week and we are here for it. 🧠💛

This week is for everyone. But we especially want to shout out a few people who don't always get seen:

The late diagnosed. The ones who spent years wondering why things felt harder, only to finally get an answer that made everything make sense. Your journey is valid, no matter when it started.

The ones who mask. Who work so hard every single day to "fit in" that by the time they get home, they're completely exhausted. That effort is real, even when nobody sees it.

The ones with hidden disability. Just because it isn't visible doesn't mean it isn't there. You don't owe anyone proof.

And the social side of things. Sometimes the hardest part isn't the diagnosis, it's the loneliness that can come with it. Finding your people, your community, a space where you can just be yourself, that matters more than most people realise.

At Phamily Family, we get to walk alongside some pretty incredible people every day. This week we're celebrating all of you.

Behaviour is communication. The challenge is knowing how to read it.

For parents, carers and support workers, that gap between what a young person is expressing and what they actually need can be the difference between escalation and resolution.

On Wednesday 8th April, Phamily Family is hosting a practical half-day workshop at Salisbury Community Hub: Navigating Youth Behaviour Together.

Led by Vee from Mingle Co, Shannaka from our team, and Simon from Tao & Mind, the session covers what behaviour is really communicating, how to respond calmly rather than reactively, practical strategies you can use straight away, and how to protect yourself from burnout in the process.

This is designed for parents, carers, support workers, NDIS providers, teachers, mentors and caseworkers. If you work with or care for young people, the learning is directly applicable.

Tickets are limited. Wednesday 8th April, 10am to 1pm, Salisbury Community Hub.

Confidence grows when participants are supported to try things independently.
Every small step builds skills, choice, and self-belief 💚

For some young people, that might mean:

- Navigating a new environment
- Speaking with someone new
- Catching public transport
- Ordering their own food
- Managing their time

These small experiences build independence over time.
And that independence is what helps a young person feel more confident as they move toward work and adult life.

At Phamily Family, our mentoring happens out in the community. We follow the young person’s interests, work at their pace, and support them to practise real-life skills in a safe, low-pressure way.
