Today, Kingscliff firefighters visited a local resident after his son recently contacted our station concerned that his dad was unable to hear his smoke alarm when it activated.

After discussing the specialised smoke alarms available for people who are deaf or hard of hearing, our crew ordered an alarm on his behalf then visited his home today and installed one for him.

We also spent time talking about fire safety around the home, showing him how to use his fire blanket and extinguisher, and explaining how his new smoke alarm works.

If you have a family member, friend or neighbour who is deaf or hard of hearing and may not hear a standard smoke alarm, please reach out. There are options available that could save a life.

UNIT FIRE at BOGANGAR

At approximately 2:35am, Fire and Rescue crews from Kingscliff 347 and Banora Point 514, along with Tweed Coast RFS, were called to reports of a house fire in Bogangar.
Fortunately, crews had only just completed another incident in Cabarita around five minutes earlier and were still on the road when the call came through, allowing for a quick response.

On arrival, crews observed a significant glow from a fire behind the address initially provided.
Further investigation located a unit within a unit complex that was fully involved in fire.
Kingscliff 347 immediately deployed a crew in Breathing Apparatus to commence a fire attack and work to prevent further fire extension. Banora Point 514 assisted with firefighting operations from the rear of the premises and protecting surrounding exposures, while Tweed Coast RFS assisted with other operational requirements and salvage and overall. Tweed Heads 468 were also assigned to the incident and assisted with operations.

Firefighters and Police evacuated occupants from four units within the complex until the area was deemed safe. Primary and secondary searches were carried out during firefighting operations, while Police were later able to make contact by phone with the residents of the affected unit and confirm they were not inside at the time of the fire.

Fire crews remained on scene for approximately two hours before the site was handed over to Police.

Further investigations into the cause of the fire are continuing by Police and Fire Investigators.

A great coordinated response by all emergency services involved.

🔎Can you spot the hydrant?🔎

Neither could Firefighters from 391 Murwillumbah initially when doing hydrant inspections.

Yesterday's house fire was in a street Firefighters had recently inspected and each hydrant took approximately 10 minutes to clear the mud to make them operational.

In a house fire, every second counts. Our trucks hold only roughly 8 minutes of water. So having functioning hydrants are critical.

•Make sure you do not cover the hydrant with your car, your lawn or any other objects.
