At approximately 6.17pm Fire and Rescue NSW Station 012 Balmain arrived in Reynolds St Balmain to assist NSW Ambulance with extrication of patient from a 2nd storey residence that had a very tricky internal stairwell. The tricky extrication prompted us to call on Ladder Platform 018 Glebe to help lift the patient from the veranda safely to the ground secured in our stokes litter stretcher.
Patient was safely taken to hospital for further treatment and a job well done by all involved.

Fire crews have extinguished a semi-trailer that exploded in flames overnight, blocking the Pacific Highway on the state's far north coast.

The B-double caught fire in the south-bound lanes of the highway outside Pimlico, south of Ballina, just before 11.30pm.

The truck and trailer were carrying six tonnes of aerosol spray cans, which ignited, causing large explosions at the scene.

The truck driver and another motorist made it to safety as the fire took hold.

The semi also contained bags of gravel and cane mulch.

Three Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) trucks from Ballina and a Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) appliance from Goonellabah were joined by four Rural Fire Service tankers, NSW Police and NSW Ambulance at the scene.

The firefighters extinguished the truck fire and numerous spot fires caused by the exploding cans.

They also deployed an absorbent barrier to protect the environment from liquid run-off and decanted 400 litres of diesel fuel from the burning rig, which was destroyed in the fire.

Traffic flow was limited to one lane north-bound during the three-and-a-half hour operation.

The cause of the incident has not yet been determined.

UNIT FIRE I

At 10.14am today Sydney Fire Communications - Fire Rescue NSW - 801 Station received calls to a unit with smoke issuing on Elliot St Balmain.

12 Station Balmain, 17 Station Drummoyne , Ladder Platform 18 Glebe and 18 Station Glebe were responded to the incident.

Fire and Rescue NSW crews arrived to find thick smoke through the entire unit and flames.

Fire and Rescue crews in breathing apparatus entered the property and worked to extinguish the blaze.

Quick arrival of Fire and Rescue crews contained the fire to one room.
Resident exited the unit unharmed.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

🔥Luckily this unit was fitted with working smoke alarms throughout the unit. 🚒

100 FRNSW firefighters are working to extinguish a large fire in Rockdale.

Those in the area should shelter indoors immediately, stay out of the smoke, close all windows, doors, vents, and turn off air conditioning.

Please avoid the areas of Bay Street, West Botany Street, President Avenue and towards The Grand Parade.
