“World Teachers Day: Reverence, Enthusiasm, Guardianship.”

“Reverence, enthusiasm and a sense of guardianship…. Rudolf Steiner identifies the qualities in a teacher that transform the educational relationship and inspires our students.

Congratulations and thank you to all teachers for upholding these high aspirations as you prepare the next generation to care for our planet.”

This is what awaits the children when they enter the classroom.

The wonder and excitement for learning which ensues is really something to behold.

Thank you to our class 1/2 teacher Kelly for all the love and time she pours into creating an unforgettable experience for the children.

Steiner education inspires the spirit of the child while eliciting academic excellence through educational artistry.

This term class 1 and 2 have focused on the four operations in mathematics. This work will continue into term 4.

Children have worked with onset and rime as well as rhyme in their writing which all add to the foundational skills for reading.

The current main lesson brings all the elements of science, geography, literacy and numeracy. As we follow Norman’s travels through the local environment meeting and exploring its flora and fauna.

How was your birthday celebrated at school when you were a child?

Children in the Steiner stream have a unique way of honouring and celebrating birthdays.

We begin by making cards for the birthday child.

The children then set up and decorate the space, making a mandala of angels representing a colour, and place a candle in the centre. They create a rainbow bridge of silks for the birthday child to cross and enter the circle.

A short birthday story of memories, given by parents is then told.

Wishing gems are passed around and all wish for the child in silence. They are then placed at the feet of the angels. The candle is lit, our unique birthday song is sung and the child blows out the candle while making their own wish for themselves.

All share in a treat and the cards and candle are taken home as a present.
