This year in recognition of International Day of Older People, Blacktown City Council will be hosting the Blacktown City Ageing Symposium!

When: Thursday 1 October 2026
Where: Blacktown Leisure Centre Stanhope
Time: 10.00 am – 1.00 pm
Cost: Free

The Symposium will bring together older people, community members, families, carers, service providers and other stakeholders to explore ageing, available supports and the opportunities and challenges facing our ageing community.

The program will include a keynote presentation and panel discussion, sharing insights and perspectives, as well as the valuable opportunity to connect with a wide range of services and organisation from across the ageing industry who will have stalls!

Importantly, the Symposium is for everyone. We encourage anyone who has an older parent, family member or loved one, as well as professionals and organisations working across health, community, aged care and support services, to come along.

Come along for the valuable opportunity for information, connection and conversation about ageing well!

So many experts saying the system is broken, how long before this is seriously addressed!

Ageing Australia CEO Tom Symondson was featured in The Australian today, speaking about the struggle for people to access care at all levels of the system.

Support at Home especially “is not doing what we hoped it would” and “not yet delivering the promise” to help people remain in their own homes, Symondson told the newspaper.

“There are a lot of people waiting for home care. There are a lot of people who cannot get into Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP), and increasingly, there are a lot of people who cannot get into beds.”
