Householders - Always check your solar PV system after a storm – here are some things you should look out for.
⛈ Visually check the panels for cracks or chips in the glass, discolouration or other obvious defects.
⛈ Visually check the panels and supporting frames have not come loose and are free from debris.
⛈ Visually check the fittings and cables at the panels and the inverter haven’t broken loose.
⛈ Review the inverter display panels for any recorded faults (refer to the manufacturer’s instructions for advice).
⛈ Make sure the inverter cooling vents are clear of debris.

You can usually visually check the panels and cables from the ground if you have a high vantage point, or while on a ladder, without the need to get onto the roof.

If you notice any issues, call your licensed electrician or solar installer.

Contact your electrician or installer to maintain or repair any damage to your solar PV system such as loose fittings or exposed cables.

Tired muscles can recover with rest, but did you know the brain can only recover with sleep? This time of year is often busier for many workers, so it’s important to recognise the signs of fatigue, how to manage them and help keep your workers safe this festive season.

Fatigue is a feeling of tiredness with a gradual onset which reduces alertness. It can lead to errors and injuries and have long term impacts contributing to heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, anxiety and depression. Fatigue can be caused by work, environment and lifestyle factors, as well as general wellbeing, rather than an underlying medical condition.

Managing fatigue is a shared responsibility between management and workers as it involves factors inside and outside of work. The Preventing and managing fatigue-related risk in the workplace guide explores the effect fatigue has on drivers, shift workers, plant operators and those who are required to concentrate highly. It provides tips on how you can identify, manage and control fatigue.

Lifting, carrying or putting down objects might sound like simple tasks – but they are one of the main causes of serious injuries or musculoskeletal disorders in the construction industry.

We’ve worked with industry representatives to develop three new resources for hazardous manual tasks - like lifting, carrying or putting things down.

• A work procedure checklist to control HMT.
• Tips for HMT training in construction.
• A HMT in construction training presentation - designed to help your workplace deliver suitable and adequate training.

Why should you always use a licensed electrician?

Businesses providing electrical services in Queensland must have an electrical contractor licence. They must meet specific insurance requirements and have a minimum $5 million public liability insurance with a $50,000 consumer protection component.

Electricians’ work must meet legal requirements and applicable codes of practice and technical standards.

Unlicensed and Do-It-Yourself electrical work is dangerous, illegal and can be fatal. Don’t risk your life or your loved one’s lives, just to save a few dollars.
