The Council, and now the State government, are fraudulently marketing themselves.
But that's just the tip of the iceberg. Both governments are unicameral and stack the committees, so they have a stranglehold on decision-making. Both Qld and Brisbane need rules to ensure better representation in committees and both need upper houses of review.

Overnight, the LNP-controlled Council forced through sweeping changes to its rules that silence opposition Councillors and weaken democratic accountability.
Under these new rules, opposition Councillors are prohibited from asking questions about projects or contracts outside their own wards and are restricted to just three questions on notice per Council meeting.
Then, almost immediately, the Lord Mayor and his administration pushed through the sale of the historic, heritage-listed School of Arts building on Ann Street.
This is not an isolated decision. It is part of an increasingly disturbing pattern of behaviour from both the Council and the State Government.
We've already seen it with the Visy site in South Brisbane. Public assets are being sold off with little or no meaningful community consultation. The ability of elected representatives to ask difficult questions, scrutinise decisions and advocate on behalf of their communities is being systematically stripped away. The public's right to challenge planning decisions is being eroded. Transparency has reached an all-time low as council and state government deliberately withhold critical information about deals negotiated behind closed doors with wealthy developers and vested interests.
This is not good governance. It is the deliberate dismantling of accountability.
Every one of these decisions concentrates more power in the hands of those already in government while reducing the ability of the public to scrutinise, question and influence the decisions that affect our communities.
As residents, ratepayers and taxpayers, we have every right to know how our money is being spent, how our public assets are being managed and whose interests our governments are truly serving.
Democracy doesn't disappear overnight. It is weakened one rule change, one secret deal and one removed safeguard at a time.
