Doboy Ward, meet your Councillor for the Day… Eddie! 👋🏼

Yesterday I had the absolute pleasure of taking Eddie out on the road with me after he won our Councillor for a Day competition.

We started bright and early at the Carina Men’s Shed AGM, where their wonderful President got Eddie involved in the proceedings.

Then it was off to the Tingalpa Aero Club, where Eddie got to watch Bo fly his brand new Royal Air Force model aircraft. ✈️ I have a feeling Eddie will be a member of the Aero Club very soon!

Next stop was the Brisbane City Council asphalt plant at Eagle Farm to see how the roads we drive on are actually made. Eddie got a seriously hands-on experience, climbing up onto the machinery (which was safely switched off!), seeing how everything works, visiting the control room and even helping load up one of the trucks. 🚧

And to finish the day, we headed to Brisbane Airport Corporation’s special plane spotting area.

Eddie LOVES planes more than anything, so you can imagine how excited he was to watch the aircraft taking off and landing! ✈️😍

A huge thank you to everyone who took the time to welcome Eddie, show him around and give him such a memorable day.

And Eddie, thank you for being such a fantastic Councillor for the Day! I hope you had as much fun as I did. ❤️

Who knows… maybe we’ve got a future councillor, pilot or engineer on our hands! 😉

🪁 BRISBANE KITE FESTIVAL 2026 🪁

Seven months ago, we started meeting to plan the big day… and yesterday, it all came together! ☀️🪁

A few fun facts:

🌭 780 sausages were sold
🚗 1,500 cars were marshalled
🪁 1,491 kites were sold
🪁 Thousands of kites took to the sky
🎏 Thousands of locals spent the day flying kites, playing, eating and soaking up the sunshine at Minnippi Parklands.

Behind every great community event is an incredible team of people, yesterday was made possible by 100+ amazing Rotary volunteers on the ground. ❤️

A special shoutout to the committee members from the Rotary Clubs of Carindale and Brisbane Southeast who have put in 100+ hours across seven months of planning to make this festival happen: Colleen, Hilary, Paul, Sherril, Ramona, Laurie, Karen and Brooke. 👏🏻

And a very special mention to Colleen, who is moving to the Sunshine Coast to be closer to family - we are going to miss you dearly! ❤️ But we’re equally excited for her, with her first grandchild arriving any day now. 🥹🫶🏻

And lastly, thank you Neil for you incredible kite display and Vuly, Brisbane City Council and Remax Morningside for generous sponsorship 💓 💓

🪁 One of our family's favourite days out is back! 🪁

Cr Lisa Atwood and I had such a great time with our kids at last year's Brisbane Kite Festival, and we're looking forward to doing it all again this year!

If you're after a fun, free day out with the family, pop by this Sunday, 23 August for the Brisbane Kite Festival! Expect colourful kites, great food, rides, community stalls and plenty of activities for the kids.
