Digital Health and Informatics (DHI) has made a strong debut at the Corporate Games, taking home two bronze medals and plenty of team pride 🥉

12 DHI staff competed across volleyball, pickleball and tennis at this year’s event, which brought together more than 3,300 participants from 133 organisations. 🎾

With back-to-back wins on court and standout performances in pickleball and men’s doubles tennis, the team showed what can be achieved through teamwork, energy and determination.

“Really proud of how the guys performed this weekend… we pushed a side that went on to finish second, which says a lot about where we’re at.”

A great result and an even better example of the benefits of connection, wellbeing and a bit of friendly competition. Bring on next year! 💪

Staff across Metro South have stepped out in their funkiest socks today, in support of CrazySocks4Docs Day. 🧦

Hosted on Friday 5 June, the yearly sock-fest champions doctors, wellness, and supports in place across the hospital for our valuable medicos. 🩺

“Crazy Socks 4 Docs Day is a great reason to get together and remind ourselves of the enormous difference that the support of colleagues and friends can make,” said PA Hospital Executive Director of Medical Services, Dr Kellie Wren.

“By wearing our craziest socks, we are prompted to start conversations about wellbeing, challenge stigma, and highlight the message that seeking help is a sign of strength.” 💙

Popular sock designs this year included animals, food, and medical-themed prints. 💊

A big thank you to everyone who showed up in their best and brightest socks in support of our doctors.

'For me, nursing is a clinical necessity driven by empathy, guiding patients safely through their healthcare journey.' ❤️

Clinical Nurse Brandon knows all about guiding patients from his role as an experienced clinical leader at the QEII Hospital's Transit Care Hub.

But what exactly is a transit care hub? It's a dedicated space where patients wait for admission, transfer, discharge or outpatient appointments. This means they receive safe and appropriate care in the right environment, so inpatient beds can be kept available for acutely ill patients.

'The QEII Transit Care Hub may be a small unit, but it is highly efficient and indispensable in ensuring that the hospital’s physical space—both wards and beds—is utilised to its maximum potential,' Brandon explained.

'By receiving patients who are ready to transition, we free up acute ward beds much earlier in the day. This directly helps reduce access block in the Emergency Department (ED) and shortens ambulance delays.

'For patients, it offers a quieter, more comfortable environment tailored specifically to their transition.'

Brandon said he became a nurse because he 'wanted a career where clinical skill and deep human connection meet to make a real difference in people's lives'. 🙌

He remembers caring for a patient from an African background who was admitted via the ED because his diabetes was getting worse.

'When the patient transitioned to the QEII Transit Care Hub I recognised that the primary barrier to their recovery wasn't the medical treatment itself, but rather a profound issue with health literacy and medication compliance, compounded by cultural and language barriers.'

Brandon took it upon himself to advocate for the patient so they could receive culturally safe support. Ultimately, Brandon successfully referred the patient to the multicultural nurse navigator service, who helped the patient understand his treatment regime and improve his long-term medication compliance.

'By facilitating this timely and appropriate transition, we were able to safely free up an acute ward bed, ensuring it could immediately be given to another critically ill patient who needed it most.

'I am incredibly proud of my colleagues. They are a diverse group of highly skilled and resilient professionals from various cultural backgrounds, which brings a rich wealth of perspectives and adaptability to the QEII Transit Care Hub.'

Thank you for all you do, Brandon! We're sure all your patients appreciate being in such safe hands. ❤️
