Only a progressive Labor government can and will deliver this kind of policy.
This is me on my final teaching prac with some of my students from the Wiltja program at Woodville State High in Adelaide.
I hadn’t been able to afford the time off to do my final prac when I first went to uni so I had to work for a couple more years to save up, go back to uni and be able to take the time off to graduate as a qualified secondary school teacher.
That's why I'm so pleased to see the Albanese Labor Government expanding Paid Prac to even more students.
Paid Prac is already making a real difference for student teachers, nurses, midwives and social workers. Now, students studying clinical psychology, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech pathology, paramedicine, radiography, pharmacy, audiology, podiatry and rehabilitation therapies will also be eligible.
No one should have to choose between finishing their qualification and making ends meet. By supporting students through their placements, we're helping more Australians complete their studies and build the skilled workforce our communities rely on.
