Benwerrin has had a busy week this past week
We had 2 members successfully complete their advanced firefighter module: Crew Awareness and Safety, responding our trucks to vegetation fires, patrols of fires in our local area, helping at the Neath hazard reduction burn and conducting the ongoing training of our upcoming Firefighters who will be assessed in September.

🚒This is a timely reminder that fire season is fast approaching and it’s time to get ready, if you need help or assistance or even where to start this process come on down to our Get Ready Weekend to be held at 44 Lings Road Buttai on the 19th of September from 10am till 2pm.

🔥 At our Get Ready Weekend not only will we have our appliances on display we will also have Fire and Rescue NSW Station 349 Kurri Kurri there.

🧯Come and discuss your Fire plan and have a gold coin donation sausage sizzle with products proudly donated from Kurri Kurri Hot Bread and Gresford Meat Co. to help Benwerrin raise funds for stolen equipment and welfare for our firefighters.

🚒 Thank you to all members who have participated in training, assessments, call outs and also participating in hazard reduction burns and patrols. Your continued support doesn’t go unnoticed

Last week we conducted more training for our new Firefighter which involved area familiarisation and also hydrants.
This is very valuable knowledge for our firefighters especially in our smaller area and where water supplies are in the newer industrial estate.
Great job to these firefighters you are doing excellent work

Training doesn’t stop because it’s raining!

Today Benwerrin crews ran through some village based training, covering off car fires, property protection and setting up for structure fires to hand over to CABA Operators.

With courses and assessments coming up and the fire season in mind, it was great for our members to get out and get some hands on skills, and for some of our members to start progressing into that crew leader position.

Big thanks to all those that turned out even with the 3 different seasons we experienced today!

Over the past few months we have been vigorously training some new members to become Firefighters on the new Firefighter course being held in September. In these photos we are showing them how our cab sprays protect our appliance during an overrun and them actively participating in an overrun drill at night.
Training like this is mandatory and even some of our more advanced firefighters regularly participate in these drills to make sure if the worst was to happen we are prepared.

When we train, we train to learn and we train for the worst expected conditions.
These are the those conditions.

Over the past 3 days we have had multiple members represent Lower Hunter District at the Australian Community Engagement Fire Awareness Conference in Wollongong. At this conference we had 2 members representing Benwerrin and they have come back with valuable knowledge on different topics of discussion involving the community.
It wasn’t all business though with having met Smokey the Rural Fire Service bear, attending the welcome reception with a beautiful smoking ceremony from the local Wollongong community then onto the Gala dinner with the theme of Heroes and Villains from the big screen.
All the networking and information that these 2 members have learnt over the past few days is going to be a wonderful asset for not only the local Benwerrin area but for the Lower Hunter District.
Thanks to our members for putting your hand up taking time out of busy schedules to extend your knowledge for the brigade and community.

On Monday night, following our Annual General Meeting (AGM) several members were recognised and presented with the Premier’s Emergency Citation for their outstanding service during the major New South Wales floods of 2022–2023. Congratulations to these members on your service to the local and further out communities.

At this AGM we have had new members take on multiple positions, congratulations to these members as you embark on the journey of your new position. We have also had some members change or no longer be in positions, thank you very much for your service as a position holder in the brigade it’s very much appreciated.

Once again thanks to all the volunteers at Benwerrin for giving up time with your families to support the overall community of Lower Hunter and broader communities.

Another low blow for Benwerrin brigade.

For the 2nd time this year Benny has been broken into, ransacked and equipment stolen.
This time, we’ve had equipment taken off our truck which does hinder our operational capability.
We’ve also had a recent donation for upgrades to the station that was also taken.

What we’ve lost from this:
Equipment used for the community.
Station upgrades for our training and meetings.
Not to mention the previous tools taken and damage done to our station.

This does effect our response as Benwerrin had to be taken offline, volunteers have had to sacrifice their time to go over our equipment, work out what has been taken, clean up the mess made and reset our trucks, plus it ties up police resources.

If anyone has any information regarding these break and enters please contact the NSW Police Assistance hotline on 131 444
