We’ve teamed up with Fire and Rescue NSW Station 349 Kurri Kurri and Cessnock District Rescue Squad - VRA Rescue NSW to have an open day at Kurri Fire station!

The BBQ is now on for lunch and the trucks are open for the kiddo’s to have a look at!

Tonight Benwerrin joined up with Kurri F+R and Mulbring RFS to do some cross capability training on pumpers, pumping and draughting and high volume hose work including showing our newer members how to set up and utilise a ground monitor and other hose techniques and applications!

It’s been an eventful week with Benwerrin with our members either going to call outs or upping their skills.

This week we saw one of our members receive her Wild Fire Behaviour (WFB) certificate which is one step closer to her Advanced Firefighter qualification.

This weekend we had 2 members also complete their Navigation components of the Advanced Firefighter qualification at Lower Hunter Fire Control.

We also had 2 of our members attend the Rural Fire Service Dubbo Training Academy for the weekend at the Aviation Centre of Excellence to successfully complete qualifications.
One Member has received his Air Base Operator (ABO) qualification and our other member received her qualification for Aviation Radio Operator (ARO).

Congratulations to these members on up skilling your qualifications the time and effort put into these courses doesn’t go unnoticed.

Today at Benwerrin Brigade we were tasked with the very important job of community engagement at Eden Academy Kurri Kurri.
Was a great opportunity to show children of different ages what we do in the Rural Fire Service.
Thanks to our members who turned out to show the children the fire trucks

Been a busy week with Benwerrin Brigade.
Conducted training on Monday night with car fire scenarios.
We then proceeded to responded a crew to the Masonite Rd fire at Tomago.
Also supplied a crew yesterday to a Hazard Reduction burn in Wollombi.
Thanks to our amazing volunteers for always showing up and being keen to help out, it doesn’t go unnoticed

Benwerrin 1 is currently on scene in Thornton at a large vehicle/mulch fire with other units from the area

Whilst we were offline from Saturday morning until Sunday afternoon due to the break in, the moment we were cleared operational again, we deployed our Cat 9 light tanker to the Oyster Cove fire, then shortly after our Cat 1 tanker was activated out to the same fire.

Recently Benwerrin Station was broken into.
Due to this Benwerrin was out of service over the weekend but we are back in service now.

Outside of affecting our operational status, some equipment has been taken and our trucks ransacked.

We want to remind people, we are volunteers supporting the community.
We don't get paid.
All of the taken equipment has been paid for by fundraising, donations and grants and is not supplied. Its equipment we sought out to fundraise and purchase to increase our capability.
