Cairns police are urging business owners to check any $50 notes after counterfeit currency was detected in the region this week. Police from the region’s Tactical Crime Squad recently uncovered the notes after conducting a routine traffic stop of a car. On first look the notes appear to be genuine, however on closer inspection they appear worn and bear the same serial numbers. It is believed the cash could be circulating within the Cairns community and police are encouraging anyone who believes they have counterfeit currency to come forward. Investigations into the origin of the fake notes are continuing.
