Matson & Ridley Safaris

Matson & Ridley Safaris Matson & Ridley Safaris is an ethical travel company specialising in life changing journeys in Africa

Co-founded by zoologist and author, Dr Tammie Matson, and Earth Hour co-founder Andy Ridley, Matson & Ridley Safaris provides life changing journeys that make a difference. After decades of working in conservation in Africa, Asia and Australia, seeing that some of the best examples of community-based conservation come from ethical safari operations in Africa, Tammie and Andy set up this business t

o focus their efforts where they truly feel they can make a difference. With the world's wildlife in increasing peril due to conflict with people, habitat loss and poaching, never has there been a greater need to show people the wonders of Africa's natural environments and, through ethical tourism, to contribute to its conservation. Tammie organises bespoke safaris that benefit local people and wildlife, as well as leading several safaris every year herself. Tammie's safaris are intimate, exclusive safaris in the best wildlife areas with other like-minded individuals, along with your own personal zoologist. They are as life changing to the people on the journeys as they are to those they benefit in Africa.

At Matson & Ridley Safaris, we are privileged to explore the most biodiverse places on earth with our guests. Through tourism that makes a difference, we're ensuring this biodiversity is here for generations to come.

Happy World Bee Day! Did you know the average bee makes just 1/12th of a teaspoon of honey in her entire lifetime? And yet somehow she also manages to visit up to 100 flowers on a single trip, and fly the equivalent of three times around the globe to fill a single jar.

One in every three bites of food you eat today exists because a bee showed up to do her job. So today, and every day, let's appreciate the small things that hold the whole wild world together.

When you slow down and tune into nature on safari, you realise there’s much more happening out there than you thought.

In that gentle space, when your senses regain their ability to sharpen, you’ll see, hear and feel so much more than you can imagine.

We’re often drawn to the big moments in Africa, the lions, the elephants, the drama.

But the real story of the wild is happening much closer to the ground.
Tiny creatures. Quiet systems. Invisible connections that hold everything together.

Our latest blog explores the unseen forces shaping Africa’s ecosystems, and why the smallest things might matter most.
