VALE Dennis Wilkes, 90 years young: 11 September 1935 - 28 January 2026

On 28 Jan, Dennis and Anne had lunch together celebrating their 65th wedding anniversary 💜 and he unexpectedly died that night.

Dennis lived a rich life full of adventure, service and he had a wicked sense of humour. He was in RAAF for 25 years attaining rank of Warrant Officer. He was a long-term RSL volunteer raising over $20,000 selling poppies.

2025 Remembrance Day Sales

2025 saw us complete two (2) weekends selling poppies along with badges, drink coolers, scarves and shopping bags. This was conducted at Bunnings Gungahlin over the weekends 1 st Nov/2 nd
Nov and 8 th Nov/9 th Nov.

Thank you to all the volunteers who gave their time to help over the two weekends. We had a good variety of people which allowed for some good discussions and ideas for 2026 were also discussed.

Total Sales are as per the below totals:

Total Sales of all items over 4 days - $6,144
Total Donations over 4 days - $1,280.65

Special mention too Trish Hyland (Wife of the late Bill Hyland former member of the Belconnen RSL) who sold poppies at the Grove Ngunnawal Retirement Village this year and has done so
since Bill’s passing. We thank you Trish and the Retirement Village for the donation of $60.

Proceeds of the Remembrance Day sales along with our other fundraising activities help the Sub-Branch conduct activities and subsidising Sub-Branch activities for members throughout the year.
These include morning tea catch ups, Christmas Lunch, Bereavement activities where required, Sponsorship for youth, and other either free or subsidized activities.
