Our Coordinator plans and reviews the program to ensure that positive outcomes are achieved by children and parents. The Stay n Play Playgroup program delivers personal development, social interactions and friendships for you and your child and is underpinned by the phrase “Learn Through Play.”
Learn Through Play enables the children and parents to learn through experience. Some of the benefits of this model are listed below. Children:
Social and emotional development – how children interact with others and manage their own feelings e.g. sharing, joining in group time, taking turns, quiet corner. Physical development – fine and gross motor skills e.g. climbing, riding bikes, ball play, play dough, painting, craft, and water play. Speech and language development – communicating through verbal and non verbal cues, reading, and practice writing/drawing. Cognitive development – how children think, learn and problem solve. Parents:
Social interactions with other parents – able to relax and talk with other parents while their children play in a safe and happy environment. Support network – program is run by an Interactive Parenting Coordinator who is able to provide support and information to families, supervision and appropriate activities. Ageless Play:- Our Inter generational playgroup runs on Tuesdays. We have Harmony Club clients come visit us in the playground for art, craft & sensory play.

The way we speak to children becomes part of the way they learn to speak to themselves.

When a child is overwhelmed, their brain is already working hard to manage the intensity of what they are feeling. A harsh tone, yelling, or too many words can add even more stress, while a calm, steady voice can help signal safety and make it easier for them to come back to themselves.

That does not mean we never set limits or that we stay perfectly calm every single time. It means our tone matters, especially in the moments when their emotions are biggest.

❤️ A calm voice can help slow the moment down.
❤️ Fewer words can make it easier for an overwhelmed brain to process.
❤️ A steady boundary teaches that safety and firmness can exist together.
❤️ Repeated experiences of co-regulation help children gradually build the ability to regulate themselves.

Over time, children internalize what they repeatedly experience. The patience, steadiness, and emotional language we model can slowly become part of their own inner voice.

We are not just helping them through one hard moment. We are teaching them what calm can feel like from the inside.

Last week our Ageless Play group had a fabulous morning on an excursion. We met at Karawatha Forest for a lovely morning tea, headed inside the Discovery Centre to learn through play! 😍🥰

Continuing the celebration of our volunteers here in playgroup, we need to mention our "Maintenance Technician" - Peter! He has a wealth of knowledge & many skills that are used around playgroup & also the Neighbourhood Centre. He solves problems big or small, with ease. He is a lifesaver! We are so very grateful to have him part of the Stay n Play Team & most importantly a Granddad regularly visiting with his grandchildren. Thank you Peter, for all that you do. We really appreciate it 🥰
