QSAN supports this campaign by Nina Funnell, journalist from News.com "Don't Subpoena Our Support: Keep Counselling Confidential"

The campaign calls for the complete confidentiality of sexual violence counselling notes in criminal trials in Australia.

Currently in Queensland, there is an absolute privilege protecting counselling notes up to and including the committal but a qualified privilege at trial. This means, the defence can and often does, still get access to the victim-survivor's confidential counselling notes at trial.

The link to sign the petition is below.

In addition, the human rights of victim survivors of sexual violence need to be protected and upheld.

Presently, only the human rights of the accused in the criminal justice system are specifically protected in the Human Rights Act (QLD) 2019.

This ongoing failure, entrenches existing bias and gender discrimination in the criminal justice system and must change to promote a fairer and more just system.

April is Autism Awareness Month

This month is an opportunity to celebrate the diversity of autistic people and to build greater understanding, acceptance and inclusion across our communities.

Autism is a natural part of human diversity, and every autistic person has unique strengths, perspectives and support needs. By listening to autistic voices, challenging misconceptions, and creating more inclusive environments, we can help ensure everyone has the opportunity to participate, belong and thrive.

Let’s move beyond awareness to understanding - today and every day!

Celebrating Different Minds: Neurodiversity Celebration Week (16–20 March)

This week, we join the global movement to recognise and celebrate the unique talents of neurodivergent individuals. Neurodiversity isn’t just about awareness; it’s about action, acceptance, and building a world that understands it takes all kinds of different minds to thrive.

Whether in our schools or our workplaces, embracing diverse ways of thinking - from Autism and ADHD to Dyslexia and beyond - drives innovation and fosters a truly inclusive culture.

Let’s move beyond the stereotypes and focus on the strengths!

How are you celebrating neurodiversity this week?

Encouraging everyone to think about joining in this very fun running day and building community together! ❤️

Sanctuary Runners Australia is a new volunteer-led initiative, launching in March 2026, connecting people of diverse cultures through running, jogging and walking.

Free and open to all, we create a welcome space where people who have recently arrived in Australia, including refugees, migrants and those seeking asylum, can build friendships with the wider community through movement.

Originally founded in Ireland in 2018, Sanctuary Runners has grown to more than 40 groups across Ireland and Great Britain. Now, we’re thrilled to begin building communities here in Australia.

Supported by the Refugee Council of Australia and a growing community of organisations, our mission is simple:
🤝 Build bridges
🩵 Promote a culture of welcome
🏃‍♀️‍➡️ Improve wellbeing
🌏 Create a community of belonging

Our first activity will take place in Auburn on Saturday 21 March 2026, where members will participate in a local 5km parkrun.

Free Sanctuary Runners blue shirt provided to all participants 🩵
