Our crew consists of first responders with decades of dedicated experience between them. We acknowledge the inter agencies we work beside and whether paid or voluntary...each of you give to the community wholeheartedly. To our families and friends who support the work we do....thank you for all the late nights....the worrisome times...the hours away from home and the effects some events have on us. First responders play a crucial role in maintaining the health safety and dignity of all whom we are in contact with. From our team to you all....thank you and may we continue to meet and exceed your expectations in our service to the community.

🌈 Pride Month 2026 🌈

This June, Illawarra Urgent Response recognises Pride Month and celebrates the diversity that makes our communities stronger.

Pride Month is an opportunity to acknowledge the contributions, experiences, and resilience of LGBTQIA+ individuals while promoting understanding, respect, and inclusion within our communities.

June also marks Men’s Mental Health Month, an important awareness campaign focused on encouraging conversations around mental wellbeing and reducing the stigma that can prevent people from seeking support. While these are two distinct causes, both serve as important reminders of the value of compassion, understanding, and supporting one another.

As an organisation dedicated to serving the public, we believe that every person deserves to feel safe, respected, and supported regardless of their background, identity, or circumstances. Compassion, dignity, and respect are values that guide the care and assistance we provide to everyone we encounter.

While Pride Month is a time of celebration for many, it is also an opportunity to reflect on the importance of creating communities where all people feel accepted and able to access support when they need it.

At Illawarra Urgent Response, we are proud to serve a diverse community and remain committed to treating every person with professionalism, respect, and kindness.

This June, we encourage everyone to:
🏳️‍🌈 Celebrate diversity
💙 Check in on your mates and loved ones
🏳️‍🌈 Show kindness and respect to others
💙 Support positive mental health conversations
🏳️‍🌈 Promote inclusion within our communities

Together, we can help build a community where everyone feels welcome, valued, and supported.

Happy Pride Month and Men’s Mental Health Month from the team at Illawarra Urgent Response.

💙 June is Men’s Mental Health Month 💙

This June, Illawarra Urgent Response would like to take a moment to recognise Men’s Mental Health Month and the importance of looking after not only our physical health, but our mental wellbeing too.

Mental health challenges can affect anyone, regardless of age, occupation, or background. Unfortunately, many men still feel pressure to “tough it out” or keep their struggles to themselves. The reality is that asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness.

Whether it’s talking to a friend, family member, colleague, healthcare professional, or support service, reaching out can make a significant difference.

As first responders, we regularly see the importance of early intervention in medical emergencies. Mental health is no different. Checking in on a mate, starting a conversation, or seeking support when you need it can save lives.

This month, we encourage everyone to:
✅ Check in on your mates
✅ Start conversations about mental health
✅ Seek support when you need it
✅ Remember that you are never alone

June also marks Pride Month for many members of our community. While this post focuses on Men’s Mental Health Month, we recognise that both causes are important and deserving of awareness, understanding, and support.

Mental health challenges can affect people from all walks of life, and every person deserves to feel safe, respected, supported, and able to access help when they need it. By fostering inclusive and supportive communities, we can help improve the wellbeing of everyone around us.

At Illawarra Urgent Response, we believe that supporting mental health and supporting one another are values that benefit our entire community.

If you or someone you know is struggling, support is available.

📞 Lifeline Australia – 13 11 14
📞 Beyond Blue – 1300 22 4636
📞 Emergency Services – 000 (if there is an immediate risk to life)

Together, we can help break the stigma surrounding mental health, encourage meaningful conversations, and build a stronger, more supportive community for all.

What a great day!

Yesterday saw our crew out and about assisting our friends at Shellharbour City Council during their Local Schools Reconciliation Flag Walk.

It was a fantastic day enjoyed by both our team and the many attendees. It was wonderful to see our community come together to acknowledge and celebrate such an important occasion of reflection, remembrance, and reconciliation.

The event was relatively uneventful from a first aid perspective, with our team treating two patients for minor injuries. Both were assessed, treated, and able to return to enjoy the remainder of the event.

We would like to thank Shellharbour City Council for selecting Illawarra Urgent Response as their first aid provider for this fantastic community event.

Serving our community when it matters most

Illawarra Urgent Response would like to make our community aware that a nationwide emergency alert test is scheduled to be issued to mobile phones across Australia at 2:00pm on Monday, 27 July.

The alert may produce a loud sound and vibration, even if your phone is set to “Do Not Disturb.” In some cases, the alert may also activate when a device is turned back on or taken off aeroplane mode.

For most people, this will simply be a routine national emergency alert test. However, we acknowledge that for some members of our community — particularly victim-survivors of domestic and family violence who may keep a hidden or emergency phone for safety reasons — this alert may present additional concerns.

If you or someone you know has a hidden or secondary phone kept for personal safety, consider planning ahead by:
• Turning the device off prior to the alert time
• Leaving it somewhere safe with a trusted person
• Being mindful when switching devices back on afterwards

Your safety always comes first.

Further information regarding the national alert system can be found via the National Emergency Management Agency:

Illawarra Urgent Response is deeply saddened by the news released today from Marine Rescue NSW regarding the tragic loss of two volunteers who lost their lives while responding to a vessel in distress.

Our thoughts and condolences are with the families and loved ones of the two fallen members, as well as the third, as yet unidentified, victim involved in this heartbreaking incident.

At Illawarra Urgent Response, many of our personnel proudly serve as volunteers across a range of organisations, including within the emergency services sector. Today’s events are felt deeply across our team and the broader emergency services community. This is a sobering reminder of the dedication, selflessness, and courage shown by those who step forward to help others—often in the most dangerous of circumstances.

We acknowledge the immense risks both volunteer and career emergency service workers face in the line of duty, and we stand in solidarity with all those impacted.

Lest we forget the sacrifices made in service to others.

Today we hope everyone enjoyed following along with us as we reflected on what unfolded 111 years ago at Gallipoli — a day that forever shaped our nation.

ANZAC Day remains a stark reminder to slow down, reflect, and remember those who sacrificed everything for the freedoms we enjoy today. It is a day to unite as one nation, and we hope everyone found time to do just that — whether at dawn services, marches, or in quiet reflection.

Today we especially remember some of the sons of the Illawarra who answered the call, including Gustaf (George) Dahlstrom of Woonona, Lt Col Roy Morell of Wollongong, and the Alderson brothers of Woonona, among so many others from our region who served with courage. (Region Illawarra)

“They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.”

Lest We Forget.

From all of us at Illawarra Urgent Response — thank you to those who served, those who still serve, and those who keep the ANZAC spirit alive.

🇦🇺 Why Gallipoli Matters to Australia

25 April 1915 was one of the first major military actions fought by Australians as a young nation.

Though Gallipoli was not a military victory, it became a defining chapter in Australia’s story — symbolising courage, sacrifice, mateship and endurance.

Many see Gallipoli as where the ANZAC spirit was born.

That spirit lives on.

Lest We Forget.
