Good news! Clocks go back one hour tonight which means you get an extra hour of sleep (unless you have young kids), plus the clock in your car/on the microwave will be correct again!

It's also a great reminder to replace the battery in your smoke alarms.

Only working smoke alarms save lives 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦🏡

Remember, when you’re changing your clocks check your smoke alarms too.
It’s important to do regular maintenance on your smoke alarms.
Dust or vacuum your smoke alarms at least once a year.
Test your smoke alarms monthly.
Replace batteries yearly or install a smoke alarm powered by a 10-year lithium battery.

It's still well and truly BBQ weather so make sure you keep an eye on potential hazards such as this grease fire. It is a good idea to have a fire blanket close at hand AND make sure you know how to use it correctly. If you have a fire extinguisher at home ensure it is the correct one for the type of fire. Water extinguishers should never be used on oil/grease fires.

Introducing a new Fire Danger Rating System which encourages people to act to protect themselves according to the bushfire risk.
The new system will be the same in every state and territory which will make it easier for Aussies travelling out of their area to understand the rating. Apparently the tiny white part below the green wedge is the 'off' or 'no current warnings' indicator!

Here in Victoria, we have over 400 Fire Danger Rating signs – including both manual and automatic. Communities know these old familiar signs, but the science behind them is due for an upgrade.

From today, we’re changing things up, introducing a new system which encourages people to act to protect themselves according to the bushfire risk.

The new system will be the same in every state and territory so no matter if Australians are travelling or at home, they will always see the same signs. This will provide consistency for border communities and those who go interstate regularly.

The new system is less complicated and condenses the ratings to just four levels. Scientific accuracy around fire danger predictions is also enhanced.

We’ll provide updates on this throughout spring and summer. For now, prepare and get ready: https://emergency.vic.gov.au/prepare/?fbclid=IwAR1sJbX_DC7avQFYFDdCP-QkPFMBQAAEajd9OrLLYLBPMp3HmhVubbco1o8 /afdrs
