The Edendale Repair Café is on again this coming Saturday 20 June between 10am - 12 midday.

Our wonderful volunteers will be offering all the usual repairs, including:

🛠️ Garden tools
…and small household items

PLUS ⚡ a qualified electrician will be on hand for:

• Cord and plug replacement
• Electrical safety checks
• Fault diagnosis & referrals to local repairers

"Is an EV right for me?"

If this question is of interest to you, come along to this free session at Edendale on Saturday 20 June between 1.30 - 3.pm. It's an information session plus Q&A, presented by Bryce Gaton, one of Australia's foremost experts in electric vehicles.

It will cover what to look for when choosing an EV, how range and charging infrastructure work in practice, and address the most common myths that tend to muddy the conversation. You'll leave with a clear understanding of the real benefits and limitations of electric vehicles as they stand today.

At the end, you'll be able to ask Bryce your questions and get factual, trustworthy answers from an expert in the field. Bryce regularly presents on EV topics to the public, as well as being the writer behind the EV car model Fact Sheets and webpage found on the AEVA (Australian Electric Vehicle Association) national website.

On Monday 29 June from 10.30-11.30 am or 12midday - 1pm, join environmental educator Karina for a fun minibeast discovery activity where children learn all about some of the “little creatures” on the farm - composting worms, bees, the Eltham copper butterfly and Spiny Leaf insects.

This activity is best suited to children aged 4-12. No charge for accompanying adults, but all children must have an adult with them during the session.

This Sunday 14 June between 10am - 12midday, Friends of Edendale are having a community planting event.

This planting is part of the ongoing re-vegetation of the Diamond Creek adjacent to Edendale, where some 2000 plants have already been planted. The aim is to put another 1000 plants in the ground during 2026.

This planting project focuses on the importance of the Diamond Creek as a wildlife corridor/biodiversity link. It started in 2022 under the generous support of Melbourne Water through their Planting4Platypus initiative, and between 2024-2027 is being supported by the Federal Government’s Urban Rivers and Catchments Program.

The funding is enabling continued revegetation to restore the riparian indigenous vegetation community and the opportunity to expand revegetation to the steeper banks of the Diamond Creek to rehabilitate the potential for platypus habitat.

Coming up on Saturday 18 July (and again on Saturday 25 July) is the always-popular Winter Fruit Tree Pruning workshops with horticulturalist Justin Calverley.

📍9am - 1pm, $70 per attendee

Winter pruning of fruit trees is vital for setting structure in young trees and promoting fruiting wood in mature trees.

This workshop will give you the skills to prune with the confidence to achieve the tree you wished for. It combines both the theory of why and what we prune in winter with demonstrations in the Edendale orchard.

After a very successful initial 8 week course held during Term 2, we are again offering Justin Calverley's "The Backyard Farmer" series of workshops in Term 3 - beginning on Tuesday 21 July to Tuesday 8 September (10am - 2pm). With the added bonus of a "Choose your own adventure" on Tuesday 15 September, where the class agrees on the topic of the last session.

Pricing varies depending on the number of sessions you book - you can do all 8 (9, with the bonus), or enrol for individual sessions only. The more sessions you book, the greater the savings.

Also, the first 5 people to book the full 8-session program will receive a complimentary copy of Justin’s book, "The Urban Farmer".

Topics over the 8 weeks include an intro to permaculture, composting/worm farming and fertilisers, soils, veggie growing, managing pests, diseases and weeds, fruit trees, berries and bushfoods.

Edendale is Nillumbik Shire Council's community environmental education farm in Eltham, Victoria

The free Community Environmental Expo at Eltham is on tomorrow, Wednesday 10 June, between 3.10 - 4.30pm. This event has been organised by Eltham High student environment group and the Edendale Youth environment team.

Come along and explore a range of interactive stalls led by local schools, community groups, Nillumbik Council and youth environment teams. Discover real ways to get involved in sustainability projects, biodiversity initiatives and community action.

At 4.00, Fiona from the Edendale indigenous plant nursery will speak briefly, sharing practical tips on incorporating local native plans into your garden - so bring along your plant questions!

Whether you're passionate about the environment, or just curious to learn more, this is a great opportunity to connect, explore and take action in your local community.

Edendale friends,

The farm is open to visitors all of the long weekend from 10am - 4.30pm. This includes the indigenous plant nursery.

Cafe Eden is also open over the weekend (10am - 3pm). On Monday's public holiday, hours are from 10.30am - 2.00pm (with a 20% public holiday surcharge).

Plenty of variety, all punnets $5.50 or $9 for the larger 6 inch pots. - available outside Reception.

Edendale is open all of the long weekend from 10am - 4.30pm (including the plant nursery). Cafe Eden is open from 10.30am - 2.00pm (20% public holiday surcharge on Monday).
