🇦🇺 WELCOME TO OFFICER CADET ELI MADHOK 🎖️

Meet Officer Cadet Eli Madhok, one of Queensland University Regiment’s newest members! 👋🇦🇺

Officer Cadet Madhok enlisted into the Australian Army Reserves on 22 June 2026 and has commenced his Part Time Officer Training Continuum, currently undertaking Module 1A at 1st Recruit Training Battalion, Kapooka. 🪖

For Eli, joining the Army Reserves is about becoming part of the tight-knit Defence community and contributing to an organisation that shares his values of mateship, teamwork and service. 🤝

He is also looking forward to the unique challenges that can only be experienced in uniform, while developing the leadership skills and experience offered through a career as an Army Officer. 💪🎖️

Getting in the sets and reps at the range - how did you spend your weekend? ⬇️

To paraphrase ‘The Soldier’ it is a dangerous myth that Australians are natural soldiers. Military skills take focus and repetition to develop. There’s no avoiding hard work to be ready for the rigours of peacetime military service, let alone the battlefield.

With a focus on being ready to fight and win future wars, Queensland University Regiment’s Jacka Company spent last weekend at Greenbank Military Training Area on the range.

Officer Cadets, Instructors, Support Staff and attachments from 5/11 Battery 9th Regiment, Royal Regiment of Australian Artillery conducted live fire practices with the EF88 Austeyr rifle and requalified Instructors and Support Staff as Safety Supervisors and Officer in Charge of practice.

Queensland University Regiment is proud to play our part in forging the next generation of Army Reserve Officers. Thanks to the Officer Cadets, Instructors and Support Staff for taking time away from friends & family to focus on developing and maintaining combat behaviours.

🍽️🎖️ QUR ALL RANKS REGIMENTAL DINING-IN NIGHT 🎖️

Queensland University Regiment recently hosted its All Ranks Regimental Dining-In Night at the magnificent St Leo’s College, The University of Queensland — a wonderful evening of camaraderie, tradition and celebration. 🇦🇺

We were honoured to welcome Mr Mike Breenan, Associate Director of Defence Studies at UQ, alongside our own Colonel Commandant, Brigadier (Retired) Peter Jeffrey, AM, CSC, RFD.

Our guest speaker for the evening was Deputy Commander 2nd Australian Division, Brigadier Mark Armstrong, CSC, who provided an engaging address and valuable reflections for our members. 🎤👏

It was also fantastic to be joined by Mr Craig Blanch, President of the Queensland University Regiment Association, and Mr Ross Williamson, President of the Toowong RSL Sub Branch and former Commanding Officer of QUR. 🤝🇦🇺

The evening provided an excellent opportunity for our members to come together, reflect on the previous training year and the many achievements of our people, while continuing to uphold the customs and traditions that are an important part of our Regiment and the Australian Army. 🎖️

Tactics. Leadership. Endurance.

Queensland University Regiment’s Jacka Company just completed an intensive weekend at Kokoda Barracks in the Gold Coast hinterland.

Jacka Company Instructors put our Officer Cadets through their paces with physical fitness, tactical instruction, infantry minor tactics and preparations for upcoming Part Time Officer Commissioning Program Modules.

Saturday evening was focused on Professional Military Education with a ‘fireside’ chat on Leadership by Brigadier Arran Hassell CSC and Sunday included a visit to the Australian Army Military Intelligence Museum.

Thanks to the Officer Cadets, Instructors, Support Staff and Visiting Lecturers for making the weekend a success. Always great to make use of Kokoda Barracks and Canungra Training Area!

🎓 PART-TIME FOUNDATION CAPTAINS COURSE – COMPLETED! 🎓

Congratulations to all trainees on the successful completion of the recent Part-Time Foundation Captains Course at Queensland University Regiment. 🇦🇺

The Operations Module focused on applying the Decision-Making and Planning Processes (DMP) to support the development of plans at the strategic, operational and tactical levels. The course challenged our future leaders to develop their knowledge, critical thinking and planning skills in preparation for the responsibilities of command. 🪖📚

Today marks the 110th anniversary of the Battle of Fromelles — one of the most devastating and defining actions fought by Australian soldiers on the Western Front.

We honour the courage, sacrifice, and enduring legacy of the men of the 31st and 32nd Battalions who faced immense losses on 19 July 1916.

Queensland University Regiment was represented at the commemorative service in Ipswich by the Adjutant, alongside the Commander 8th Brigade. 8th Brigade - Training - Australian Army

Distinguished guests included Former Governor‑General Dame Quentin Bryce AD CVO, Major Brook Hastie ADC representing the Governor of Queensland, the Honourable Dr Jeannette Young AC PSM and Mr Alain Etchegaray, Honorary French Consul.

QUR extends sincere thanks to all honoured guests, community representatives, and members of the Returned and Services League who joined in marking this solemn milestone.

👉Queensland University Regiment was proudly represented at Exercise Austral Shield’s VIP Visitor Day, held at the Townsville Field Training Area, with Officer Cadet Tyson MacGregor hosting his civilian management team to showcase the benefits of Army Reserve service and the strong connection between military training and civilian employment⚔️

🪖 OCDT MacGregor was enlisted into the Army Reserves in May 2025 and is now undergoing his part time officer training in Townsville. In his civilian life he is a labourer and team leader for Vision Construction in Townsville 👷

🚁Officer Cadet MacGregor’s decision to join the Army Reserve was heavily influenced by his father, SGT Ian MacGregor of the 5th Aviation Regiment 💯

✔️Beyond honouring this tradition, Officer Cadet MacGregor highly values the leadership and management skills he has developed through his Army service. His participation on Exercise Austral Shield also provided his civilian employer with a firsthand insight into the benefits that Army Reserve service brings, demonstrating the transferable skills and professional growth Reservists contribute to the workplace 🫡

Ready Now & Future Ready - Preparing the next generation of Army Reserve Majors. ⬇️

Queensland University Regiment has the unique mission of delivering the Part Time Foundation Majors Course (PT-FMC) for the Army Reserve. Just last week the latest PT-FMC Operations module has just wrapped up at Kokoda Barracks in the Gold Coast Hinterland.

Trainees spent approximately two weeks learning military theory, applying operational planning and building their personal & professional network across the Army Reserve. This course was also the first Foundation Majors Course to utilise the SitaWare, the Australian Army’s battle management system.

Student of Merit was awarded to Major Jonathon Abberton and the Instructors Award was awarded to Captain Gabrielle Hendry - well done for your outstanding performance!

Of course Queensland University Regiment always makes use of some of the best Physical Training Instructors in the business & the legendary Kokoda Barracks Obstacle course to break up planning with a bit of quality Battle PT.

Thanks to all the Trainees, Instructors and Support Staff for all your efforts to complete a demanding course.

🏆Queensland University Regiment congratulates Captain Astall on her appointment to Captain (from Private Soldier) as a Civil Engineer Specialist Service Officer, posting into 12th Chief Engineer Works Regiment 👷

🛠️Her technical expertise as a civil engineer will bring valuable capability to the Royal Australian Engineers, and we’re proud to see her take this significant step in her Army career🫡
