Meet Karyn! 💗

Karyn is one of our incredible team members and has been with us for 31 years.
Over the years, she’s worked across many areas of the organisation, starting as an agent in the Client Contact Centre before taking on roles in the mail room, invitations management, and now as a Client Support Officer. Her journey reflects a deep understanding of the program and a genuine passion for client care.

In her current role, Karyn helps clients with everything from image requests to providing certificates of attendance- ensuring people feel informed, cared for and supported throughout their program journey.

When asked her to describe her time at BreastScreen Victoria in three words, Karyn chose: caring, supportive and empathetic.

“Since day one, I’ve always approached every interaction as though I’m speaking to my own mum. It’s important to treat every client with respect and care because we know having a breast screen can feel nerve-racking.”

Last night, North Western BreastScreen‘s redevelopment was proudly featured in a story highlighting the history of Victoria’s oldest public hospital.

The Royal Melbourne Hospital Parkville has stood for 173 years. It once cared for injured World War I soldiers, Gold Rush families, the homeless, and the most vulnerable.

For the past 25 years, this historic site has been home to us, and last night’s story showcased the relaunch of our refreshed clinic – new equipment and upgraded facilities for staff and clients. The story highlighted the program’s vision of saving lives through the early detection of breast cancer.

The story also featured Mary, one of the 17,000 Australian women diagnosed with breast cancer annually. Her cancer was detected early through our screening program. Mary spoke openly and honestly about the fear of diagnosis, the relief of finding the cancer early and her gratitude to our free program.

Her experience is a powerful reminder of the impact early screening can have on saving lives.

This National Refugee Week, we're celebrating the power of partnerships. 🫶

In partnership with AMES Australia, we're helping connect newly arrived migrant women with our free breast screening service - making sure more women can access essential, life saving care. 💕

We spoke with Balsam, Senior Case Manager at AMES Australia who shared a message that resonates during National Refugee Week "everyone deserves equal access to essential health services. Partnerships like this help break down barriers so that women from refugee and migrant backgrounds feel informed, supported, and empowered to prioritise their health and wellbeing."

Last week we came together to acknowledge National Reconciliation Week. 🫶

Our CEO Rita Butera was joined by by Vicky Peters, a proud Dja Dja Wurrung and Yorta Yorta woman and our inaugural First Nations Board member as well as Meriki Hood, proud Kurnai and Gunditjmara woman who is also our First Nations Community Engagement Coordinator.

There were discussions about what this year’s theme, ‘All In’, looks like in practice within our organisation – emphasising that meaningful, everyday participation in reconciliation requires awareness, action and a willingness to learn. ✨
