🚦 Road Safety Upgrades Are Coming to Glengarry – Let’s Use This Funding for Our Community!

Latrobe City Council has secured support through the Safe Local Roads and Streets Program to upgrade road safety across our local towns—including right here in Glengarry!

These upgrades focus on protecting our families, pedestrians, and drivers through:
pedestrian priority crossings (including raised crossings)
Traffic calming treatments to lower crash risks
Safer intersection designs and speed management

💡 We have dedicated funding available to make our local streets safer—let’s make sure we use every bit of it and shape it to fit Glengarry’s needs!

📍 Come to the Local Info Session
Have your say in person, view the proposed designs, and make sure Glengarry gets the best outcomes from this investment:

📅 Date: Monday, 31 August 2026

⏰ Time: 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM

📍 Location: Glengarry Recreation Reserve (First room as you drive in, 31 Cairnbrook Road, Glengarry)

Can’t make the session? Make sure to submit your feedback online before consultations close on 31 August:

🚨 COMMUNITY NOTICE: Massive Battery System Proposed for Frasers Solar Farm (Glengarry)

Many locals may not be aware, but a major amendment application has been lodged for the Frasers Solar Farm project (Permit PA1900723-2).

South Energy (on behalf of Frasers Lane Development Pty Ltd) has applied to expand the original project to include a massive Battery Energy Storage System (BESS).

🔍 WHAT IS BEING PROPOSED?

👉 936MWh Battery Storage Facility added to the existing 75MW solar farm approval
👉 144 individual battery container modules installed on site
👉 5 extra hectares added to the project footprint

⚠️ WHY ACT NOW?

There has been very little public discussion around adding this large-scale battery facility to our area. If you have concerns about site safety, fire risks, visual impact, noise, or the lack of community consultation, now is the time to put your feedback on the official record.

📩 HOW TO MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD

If you want to object or comment, your submission must be emailed directly to the Planning Authority before the deadline.

1️⃣ Email to: [email protected]

2️⃣ Use Subject Line: Objection to Permit Application PA1900723-2

As part of our commitment to delivering on the goals set out in our Glengarry 5-Year Community Plan, the Glengarry Community Association recently reached out to Australia Post regarding the possibility of introducing roadside residential mail delivery to our township.

We have now received a formal response via Darren Chester’s office, and unfortunately, Australia Post has determined that roadside delivery is not feasible at this time for the township of Glengarry.

Key reasons cited by Australia Post:

Low Volumes: Current mail volume and local delivery points are too low, with overall physical mail continuing to decline nationwide.

Safety & Roads: High-speed access roads prevent motorcycle delivery, and the lack of residential footpaths creates safety issues.

Cost & Setup: A new service would require brand-new infrastructure, equipment, and dedicated vehicles, with no nearby routes available to absorb the work.

Positive News & Next Steps:
While roadside mail delivery isn't viable right now, Australia Post advised that it is currently exploring opportunities to install Parcel Lockers within the Glengarry community to improve local parcel access. Additionally, an Australia Post representative will be reaching out to the GCA directly to discuss the assessment details and potential next steps.

While this isn't the outcome we hoped for, advocating for improved local infrastructure remains a key priority in our town plan. We will continue to monitor local growth and advocate for services that support Glengarry as our community evolves.

Thank you for your ongoing support!

🚧 ROAD CLOSURE & COMMUNITY NOTICE: Brooks Lane, Glengarry 🚧

The Glengarry Community Association has been working closely with Latrobe City Council in an active effort to resolve the water flooding issues impacting our town. As part of a broader, council-wide strategy to address drainage further upstream from Glengarry, essential works are set to begin next week.

A contractor is scheduled to commence drainage improvement works on Brooks Lane starting Monday, 10 August (weather permitting).

What’s happening?
Contractors will clean out and widen the existing drain along Brooks Lane to significantly improve stormwater flow and reduce drainage issues.

Traffic & Access Details:

Road Closure: Brooks Lane will be closed to through traffic for approximately 3 to 4 weeks.

Local Access: Property owners will retain full access to their homes, with traffic arrangements in place for local residents to enter and exit safely.

Project Overview:
These works mark Stage 1 of a two-stage project aimed at long-term flood mitigation.

Stage 1: Drain cleaning, widening, and stormwater capacity improvements.

Stage 2 (Coming Soon): Installation of larger culverts at driveway crossovers on the northern side, along with lowering and sealing approximately 350 metres at the western end of Brooks Lane. Timing for Stage 2 will be shared closer to commencement.

We appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation while these essential council works are carried out to improve our local infrastructure!

Feel free to share this post to keep neighbours and local drivers informed.
