Without volunteers, our truck doesn’t turn out.

That means:
🔥 Reduced protection from bushfires.
🚗 Less assistance at motor vehicle accidents.
🏠 Limited resources available at house fires.
❤️ Fewer local volunteers ready to help when our community needs it most.

Parkesbourne Rural Fire Service Brigade is looking for new volunteers to join our team before the upcoming fire season.

You don’t need any experience—we’ll provide all the training you need. All you have to do is sign up and show up.

Now is the perfect time to join and become qualified to help protect your community.

Whether you’re 18 or 68, if you have a willingness to learn and a desire to make a difference, we’d love to have you on the team.

🔥 Parkesbourne, the timer is on! 🔥

There are only 78 days until the Bush Fire Danger Period starts on 1 October.

Winter may fee like it has only just begun, but now is the time to start preparing your property in time for the hot weather and approaching fire season.

Some things to consider, which will help make a big difference, over the next couple of months…….

✅ Slash or mow long grass around homes, sheds and fences
✅ Clean leaves and debris out of gutters and off roofs
✅ Trim back trees and shrubs that are close to buildings
✅ Check your pumps, hoses and generators are working properly
✅ Make sure water tanks and firefighting units are accessible and ready to go
✅ Clear access tracks and driveways so fire trucks can get in if needed
✅ Ensure property entrances and house numbers are clearly visible from the road
✅ Have a plan for your family, pets and livestock if you need to leave early
✅ Download the Hazards Near Me app and set up your watch zones

For our rural properties, now is also a good time to think about:

🐄 Where stock can be moved if a fire threatens

🚜 Making sure machinery is serviced and fitted with extinguishers

💧 Checking dams, tanks and water points that may be needed for firefighting

🚪 Making sure gates can be opened easily and aren’t blocked

We all know how quickly conditions can change, in Parkesbourne and how important it is to be ready and prepared before the first hot and windy day arrives.

The best time to prepare for the bushfire season isn’t when you see smoke, it’s right now

Stay safe and be prepared.
