πŸš’ On Thursday the 11th, a few of our members took the truck down to Happy Hippo to visit the 4-year-old kinder kids.

The kids absolutely loved the visit and had a great time seeing the truck up close, learning about what we do, and chatting with our crew. Seeing the smiles and excitement on their faces made it all worthwhile for our members. ❀️

Thank you to Happy Hippo for having us β€” we always enjoy being part of our local community! πŸš’πŸ‘©β€πŸš’πŸ‘¨β€πŸš’

1 June is the the first day of winter and Smoke Alarm Action Day.
Use it as your reminder to test your smoke alarms and make sure they’re working properly.

It only takes a minute, and it could save your life. A working smoke alarm can halve the risk of death in a house fire and is one of the simplest ways to protect your home and family.

⚠️ AusAlert Test in Geelong ⚠️
Belmont & Highton β€” 2:00 pm, Thursday 18 June 2026

The Australian Government is testing AusAlert, a new national system that sends emergency warnings directly to compatible mobile devices during disasters.

At around 2:00 pm, you may hear a loud, siren‑like sound and feel your device vibrate for about 10 seconds. This is only a test β€” no action is needed.

If receiving a Priority Alert could affect your safety or wellbeing, visit ausalert.gov.au to learn how to turn Priority Alerts off on your device.

A new national warning system called AusAlert will be used across Australia from October 2026.

AusAlert will be able to send warning messages to your mobile device as push notifications during:
β€’ Natural hazards such as bushfires, floods, and tsunamis
β€’ Public health emergencies
β€’ Biosecurity incidents
β€’ Security threats

Before the system is introduced, it will be tested.
In Victoria, a local test will happen in the Geelong suburbs of Highton and Belmont on Thursday 18 June at 2 pm, followed by a national test on Monday 27 July at 2 pm.

More about the tests and rollout of AusAlert will be shared on the VicEmergency page in the coming weeks.

πŸš’ Wildfire Suppression Training Completed πŸ”₯

Recently some of our members attended a 3-day Suppress Wildfire course to further develop the skills needed to safely and effectively work together on the fireground.

Over the two training days, members covered a wide range of topics including fire behaviour, wildfire suppression tactics, and the hazards involved with bushfire firefighting. The course explored how factors such as fuel, weather, topography, predictive meters and suppression methods all influence wildfire behaviour and decision-making on the fireground.

It was a lot of valuable information to take in, finishing with a full day of assessments to demonstrate the skills and knowledge learned throughout the course.

The photos below show some of the practical group exercises, where members worked together to apply their training in realistic scenarios.

Great effort by everyone involved in continuing to build their skills to help keep our community safe. πŸš’πŸ”₯

The weather is cooling down, and if lighting up a fire pit is in your plans. Be safe πŸ”₯

First check if Fire Restrictions are still in force in your area, and make sure you know the rulesℹ️

Never leave a fire unattended, and always you have plenty of water on hand to extinguish it when you are done.

What can I or can't I do during the declared Fire Danger Period, and on days of Total Fire Ban, when fires in the open air are legally restricted?.
