A group of year 5-6 students have been getting creative during their lunch times this term, bringing some much-loved storybook characters to life as Storybook Scarecrows to enter into the Royal Adelaide Show.
The students have created; Coraline, Grug, Winnie the Pooh & The Very Hungry Caterpillar.
From planning and designing to building and adding all the little details (with guidance from Wendy N) our students have shown incredible creativity, teamwork and persistence throughout the process.
A huge well done to everyone involved, please go visit them in the Goyder Pavilion

We have also entered into the School Kitchen Garden Competition. On Saturday Wendy and Jess will be taking our Harvest Basket and Patch to Plate entries in that will be on show in the same Pavilion.
Also don't forget to check out all our amazing OSHC Art Entries that will be displayed throughout the Goyder Pavilion as well.

SAPSASA Statewide Small Schools Basketball πŸ€
Today, Happy Valley Primary School competed in the SAPSASA Statewide Small Schools Basketball Competition at Morphett Vale Basketball Stadium.
We had a tough start, with Antonio Primary School winning our first game 28–13. We struggled to gel as a team early on, with a few too many turnovers costing us opportunities.
However, the team responded brilliantly! As the day progressed, our teamwork, passing and continuity improved, and we went on to win our next four games:
πŸ€ Willunga: 19–8
πŸ€ Sheidow Park: 26–4
πŸ€ Aldinga Payinthi: 23–9
πŸ€ Seaford Rise: 30–11
These results saw us finish 2nd in our division, earning a place in the final qualifying game against Port Elliot Primary School, with a spot in the next round of the competition on the line.
The team played some excellent basketball and showed great improvement throughout the day. Unfortunately, we couldn't quite get the desired result, going down by 17 points to Port Elliot.
I am extremely proud of the way the team responded after our first game and continued to improve throughout the day. They showed great teamwork, resilience and sportsmanship.
A huge thank you to all the parents who helped with transport, Ken for scoring, and all the parents and supporters who came out to cheer us on throughout the day. Your support is greatly appreciated!
Well done, HVPS! πŸ€πŸ‘

We're excited to be part of a joint Onkaparinga Council, Green Adelaide, Trees for Life and Arbor Green initiative, joining 17 other local schools in receiving 50 free native seedlings to plant around our school.
This wonderful initiative is helping to increase our local green canopy, while creating valuable habitat and food sources for native wildlife.
This afternoon and next Friday, our classes will be getting their hands dirty and helping to plant our new native seedlings. We can't wait to watch them grow and see the positive impact they have on our school environment for years to come!
A huge thankyou to Jeremy from Green Adelaide, for again supporting our School so well.

BTN came to visit!!

We were so excited to welcome Behind The News (BTN) to our school this week as they filmed our students talking about and taking action through their S.E.E.D.S Project - Stewardship of Endangered Endemic Trees.
It was fantastic to see our students from Mrs Miller's Class and our Eco Leaders sharing their knowledge, passion and ideas about protecting our precious native trees and the important role they play in our environment.
The students were filmed preparing and planting new seeds.

We can't wait to see our school featured on BTN next Tuesday the 18th August.
