Last night at our AGM we surprised this young lady with Life Membership to Maroota/ Canoelands Brigade.

Helen has dedicated more than 30 years of service to the RFS, joining Canoelands Brigade in 1997 and later being adopted to Maroota Brigade, as Canoelands treasurer. Helen remains treasurer to this day.
Congratulations Helen, you are a very valued member of our Brigade and this award is so well deserved.

Yesterday, AFAC News released the Bushfire Seasonal Outlook for Winter. NSW has experienced a warmer and drier autumn than usual, with less rainfall than normal.

While parts of the state received some rainfall in mid to late May, it has not been enough to significantly improve the long-term rainfall deficits or ongoing dry conditions. As a result, many areas remain unusually dry, with some parts of northern NSW already experiencing drought conditions.

Looking ahead, forecasts suggest winter is also likely to be drier than average, particularly later in the season, with warmer daytime temperatures expected across much of the state. These conditions, especially across northern, central and eastern NSW, are increasing the risk of bushfires this winter, including fires that may be more difficult to control.

Maroota Brigade, together with Maroota South Brigade had the opportunity today to take some of their junior members to visit Coulson Aviation at Bankstown Airport. A big thanks to Peter and Mark from Maroota South Brigade for making this possible.

We started the day with a damp bus trip to Bankstown…thank you Jordan, for your time in driving us there and back safely.
Upon arrival we were met by Mark who took us inside and gave us an overview on what the RFS Rotary Fleet consists of. We were then taken down to the hanger where "Helitak 201" was waiting for everyone to have a viewing. After a rundown on 201, Air Crew Officer Alex, pilot Jamie and Mark were more than obliging in showing everyone through the machine and its operation. We were grateful for the opportunity to have a sit in the cockpit and get a bit of know-how on its operation and capability.

This was a fabulous day, enjoyed by all and thank you to everyone who helped make this possible.

❄️☃️Cooler months see a 10% increase in the number of home fires, with more fires in bedrooms and lounge-rooms due to heaters, electric blankets.

🔥Prevent Fires From Heaters and Open Fires:

✅Keep everything one metre away from your heater.
Install and use as per manufacturer’s instructions.
✅If you suspect a fault, have the heater serviced or replaced.
✅Always supervise young children in rooms with open fires or working heaters.
✅Ensure flues and chimneys are regularly cleaned.
✅Strong fire screens should be set up in front of open fires.
❗️Never use wheat bags in bed.

Although we’ve seen some rain in recent days, conditions remain dry, particularly in the western parts of the state. Firefighters have been kept busy responding to a number of fires, several of which were caused by escaped burns.

While the Bush Fire Danger Period is no longer in place for all LGAs across NSW, we urge residents and land managers to check conditions before lighting a burn and remember that you are required to notify the RFS and your neighbours at least 24 hours before burning.

To notify the of your intention to burn, visit our website: www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/notify
