Today, 30 April marks the end of the Bush Fire Danger Period for all Local Government Areas (LGAs) across NSW, with Gwydir, Mid-Western, Moree Plains and Narrabri ending their fire restrictions today.

While landholders no longer require a fire permit, you are still required to notify the and your neighbours at least 24 hours before lighting a fire. To notify the RFS, please complete the online form available on our website: www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/notify

Please note that in some areas, you may still need an environmental permit from your local council or permit from Fire and Rescue NSW. You must also be aware of restrictions on the size and materials permitted in burn piles.

Today, our hearts are with everyone affected by the tragic incident at Bowen Mountain.
To the family, friends, and community touched by this loss, we offer our deepest condolences. Please know that you are in our thoughts during this incredibly difficult time.

Hawkesbury Headquarters Rural Fire Brigade and Grose Wold Rural Fire Brigade had an absolute blast meeting everyone! It was so wonderful to say hello and see so many smiling faces. We were even lucky enough to win the Golden Thong in the thong-throwing competition 🩴✨ and topped off the night with an incredible fireworks display 🎆

Happy Australia Day to our amazing community! 💙🤍❤️

Extreme Fire Danger – Saturday 10 January 2026

The Fire Danger Rating for the Hawkesbury District tomorrow, 10 January 2026, is EXTREME.

You should take action now to protect your life and property:
👉 These are dangerous fire conditions.
👉 Check your bush fire plan and ensure that your property is fire ready.
👉 If a fire starts, take immediate action.
👉 If you and your property are not prepared to the highest level, go to a safer location well before the fire impacts.
👉 Reconsider travel through bush fire risk areas.

A Total Fire Ban has been declared for tomorrow. This means no fires out in the open may be lit and all fire permits are suspended. Penalties apply for illegal fires.

The Fire Danger Rating for the Hawkesbury District tomorrow, 9 January 2026, is High.

Be ready to act:
• There’s a heightened risk. Be alert for fires in your area.

• If a fire starts, your life and property may be at risk. The safest option is to avoid bush fire risk areas.

Fire Permits have also been suspended from midnight for 24 hours.
