AEPMA

AEPMA The Australian Environmental Pest Managers Association (AEPMA) represents professional pest managers across Australia.

AEPMA is widely recognised as "the voice of the industry" and the go to source for consumers, the media and government when it comes to pest management issues in Australia. The Association has gained the trust and confidence of government departments in every Australian state and territory, and our input is regularly sought before decisions are finalised. We have representatives on many government

committees including State licensing committees, Standards Australia, Advisory Committees, the Pest Industry/Government Sector Working Group, and other appropriate working parties. We have been involved with the Senate Select Committee on pesticides, NHMRC workshops on termites, the creation and development of the National Competency Standards, as well as national licensing and other technological inputs. We are also a member of the Australian Property Services Alliance. Internationally, AEPMA is an active Member of the Federation of Asian and Oceania Pest Managers Associations (FAOPMA) and has close links and reciprocal arrangements with all similar pest management Associations throughout the world. The diversity and strength of the Association's membership enables us to be truly representative of the professional pest management industry.

Every operator has lost a job to someone quoting half the price. It stings, and it's easy to assume the customer only cares about cost.

Often they just haven't been given a reason to care about anything else. Six weeks later, when the problem is back, they usually work it out for themselves.

How do you handle it when a customer comes back after going cheap elsewhere?

Fire ants don't spread far on their own. They get moved (in mulch, soil, turf and pot plants etc.) which is why they turn up a long way from where they started.

Often you'll be the first person to look at a nest and know what you're looking at.

If you see them, report them within 24 hours. Reporting requirements and biosecurity zones differ between states, so check what applies where you work.

Have you come across them outside a known zone? Let us know in the comments.

This came out of our recent social media webinar. A pest controller turned up to a termite job and the homeowner told him she felt like she already knew him (she'd been watching his videos for months before she called).

That's the part that's easy to miss when you're posting. The results don't show up in likes. They show up on the doorstep, months later, in a customer who's already decided to trust you.

Follow along for more tips.

Every job you do is a job someone could ask you about years later. Not because you did anything wrong, but because a house changed hands, or damage turned up, and someone went looking for a paper trail.

Your notes are that trail. They're the difference between remembering a job and being able to show what you found, what you did and what the conditions were on the day.

Share this with a fellow pestie as a reminder.

SueAnn and Kuyan had a booth for Careers in Pest & presented on behalf of AEPMA at Agserv's Pestech.

A full room, plenty of good conversations, and a strong line-up of industry experts to hear from on the day.

Thanks to Agserv for having us.

Licensing gets you in the door but the real growth happens after that.

Rob makes the case for industry-led training as more than professional development. It's how we stay in control when regulatory changes come knocking.

Should ongoing training be a bigger priority for our industry? Let us know in the comments.

Earlier today, AEPMA members were emailed information about the proposed AEPMA logo update and invited to vote.

If you haven't had a chance to respond yet, there's still time. The Board is seeking member feedback before making a final decision, and every vote is important.

Voting closes at 5:00 pm (AEST) on Friday, 7 August 2026.

Whether you support the proposed logo, do not support it, or are undecided, we encourage you to have your say. Your feedback will help inform the Board's final decision.
