What fun we had at Harvest Cook Create last weekend. We were made so welcome by beautifully creative and friendly people. We arrived with worm juice and left with a variety of gorgeous curated items. We have new plants in our gardens, fresh produce to share and gorgeous pots on our admin counter. See you next time!

Remembrance Day
Hendra State School stopped to pay their respects today. Though young, our students can show respect by being kind to one another, helping those in need and working together as a community just like those who served in the past. We stand together and say ‘Lest We Forget’ so that we are reminded to never forget their bravery and sacrifice.

It was a hugely fun and messy afternoon at the Hendra State School Colour Fun Run last Thursday. Huge thanks to our amazing parents and the extended community who supported the event through attendance and prize donation. Students had a great time. We always love opportunities to bring our valued community together.

Hindus across the world are celebrating Diwali. The five day festival of lights is one of the most popular holidays in India. People celebrate Diwali with friends and family by lighting little earthen oil lamps, wearing new clothes, making sweets and lighting sparkles. A touch of Diwali came to Hendra today. There is much value and joy in the diversity of our community.

For the past 4 weeks we have been patiently watching a pair of curlews nesting, waiting for the arrival of their chicks. Well, the day has arrived and we are delighted to be able to share the wonder of two fluffy, tiny babies.

Well, law enforcement was called in today to investigate reports of ‘people’ loitering on the Nudgee Rd boundary. Turns out it was just our colourful friends returning to find their permanent home. MASSIVE thanks to Men’s Shed Nothshore for their hard work in making this project possible. We love our beautiful small school and the flexible and creative learning opportunities made possible in this setting. Each student contributed to this project to reflect and acknowledge the joy of our school community and our wish to share this joy with the wider community.

To conclude our science unit on forces, students in the junior school designed some hair raising roller coasters and theme park attractions. It was powerful to see them apply learning in a fun and engaging way. The task also facilitated some robust (and just funny) descriptions of each park’s features.

Senior students have been working on a legacy project with the support of staff and students from Kelvin Grove State College, Fortitude Valley State Secondary College and QACI. Reflective of our community approach to learning, students have designed handwriting activities and games which facilitate peer teaching and support. We extend our thanks to these supporting school and congratulate all Hendra students on their engagement with this project. Great learning happening in a supportive and creative environment.

What fun and what a privilege it has been to paint the traffic signal box adjacent to school. Each member of the school community contributed one of the flowers of our colourful garden. We had beautiful interactions with members of the wider community whilst the project was being completed. Thanks to Brisbane City Council for making the project possible.
