CLASSROOM SPOTLIGHT: SSP

Students in SSP have had a busy and successful term, participating in a range of engaging activities both in and out of the classroom. 🏫✨

Every Monday, students attend Touch Football training πŸ‰, where they continue to develop their skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship.

In mathπŸ”’, students have explored shapes, patterns, position, and location using hands-on materials and collaborative learning activities. In English πŸ“š, they have enjoyed reading texts such as The Grasshopper and the Owl, Sam the Support Worker’s Busy Day, and Captain Sky’s Big Flight, making meaningful connections to their own experiences.

Students particularly enjoyed HPE πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈ, where they practised movement skills and connected with peers from other classes.

As the term comes to an end, students have worked hard to complete assessment tasks, and we are proud of the progress they have made across all key learning areas. πŸŒˆπŸ‘

It has been a pleasure supporting our students throughout their learning journey this term.

🌟 Celebrating School Officer Day 2026 🌟

Schools across Australia celebrated School Officer Day today, a special day dedicated to recognising the invaluable contributions of school support staff. As the saying goes, "Schools simply would not function without school support staff."

At Ipswich West State Special School, we are incredibly fortunate to have our wonderful School Facilities Officer, Mr Dave, who works tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure our school is a safe, welcoming, and well-maintained environment for students, staff, and families.

From caring for our beautiful gardens and maintaining the oval, to setting up for school events, moving equipment, and repairing anything that needs fixing, Mr Dave is always willing to lend a hand.

A special thank you also goes to our amazing P&C Association, who presented Mr Dave with a thoughtful gift as a token of appreciation for all that he does. πŸŽπŸ‘ This gesture reflects the gratitude felt across our entire school community for his ongoing dedication and service.

πŸ’™ Happy School Officer Day, Mr Dave! πŸ’™

CLASSROOM SPOTLIGHT: JSS

This term, students in JSS have continued to engage enthusiastically in a range of learning experiences across the curriculum.

In HPE, students concluded their learning by responding to different stimuli to perform a sequence of fundamental movement skills. πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ Through a variety of activities, they developed their coordination, body awareness, and ability to follow visual and verbal cues. Students demonstrated increasing confidence as they practised and refined their movement skills in a fun and supportive environment. πŸŽ―πŸ‘

In science, students investigated how natural phenomena can impact people, animals, and the environment. 🌏πŸ”₯🌊 As part of their learning, students created individual posters to demonstrate their understanding of events such as floods and fires. They answered questions, shared their observations, and explained how these natural events affect themselves and other living things. Their creativity, knowledge, and ability to communicate their ideas were showcased through their completed posters. πŸŽ¨πŸ“

It has been wonderful to see students actively participating in their learning, developing new skills, and growing in confidence throughout the term. We are proud of their efforts and look forward to seeing their continued success. ⭐😊

CLASSROOM SPOTLIGHT: LPJ

The LPJ class has had a highly successful term focused on developing positive relationships with teachers and peers while becoming increasingly familiar with school routines and expectations. Students have demonstrated growing confidence and engagement as they continue to settle into the school environment.

In English, students have been exploring a variety of nursery rhymes and developing their understanding of rhyming words, letter sounds, and early phonological awareness through a range of engaging and creative learning experiences.
In math, students have been building their understanding of number concepts by identifying numerals, recognising their corresponding values, and developing subitising skills.

In science, students have been investigating the characteristics of living and non-living things. As part of their learning, students participated in a hands-on bean seed growing experiment, providing valuable opportunities to observe and discuss growth and change over time.

Overall, this term has provided many meaningful learning opportunities, and students have made significant progress in their communication, social, and academic skills. We are proud of their achievements and look forward to continuing their learning journey next term.

CLASSROOM SPOTLIGHT: JSR

Students have been working hard to complete assessments as we approach the end of the semester.

In English students are writing a review of the film Holes and giving their recommendation for others to watch it or not.

In math we have stepped up our navigation skills to follow grid maps and give directions to move about the school.

In science students are keenly building a powerpoint presentation on their chosen natural phenomena and how it impacts our lives.

In HPE we have been learning different ball games and working as a team. It has been great to see the students excited to participate and demonstrate their skills in all their learning areas.

CLASSROOM SPOTLIGHT: UPM

UPM has been very busy this term learning to compare books and we have presented speeches to our class in English. We all loved reading the Pigeon Books by Mo Willems, the most as they each taught us about ourselves and our friends and how we get along.

In math we have been learning about position and direction, patterning, shapes and counting in some very clever patterns. We enjoyed the puzzles and games we learnt in Maths.

Our science unit about Living and Non-living things and habitats led us to grow beans and learn about many different habitats and animals and their needs. We explored what plants and animals need for survival and discussed why some plants and animals cannot survive in certain habitats.

HASS led us all around the school looking for changes in the school environment and the features of our classroom.

We remembered β€˜Sorry Day’ by listening to the book and doing an activity and then enjoyed National Simultaneous Story Time listening to β€˜Luna Roo- the kangaroo baller’ by Adam Jackson and played a soccer game in the classroom and completed some great craft activities. We’ve learnt we are a great team who support each other well and learn something new every day!
