Today marks the beginning of National Reconciliation Week 💜💜

On 27th May 1997, we saw the ‘Bringing Them Home’ Report tabled in parliament in 1997, which put a spotlight on the forced removal of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children from 1800’s until 1970’s.

It provides a will long opportunity to recognise Australia’s history and the impact to many generations of this impact and ways to come together to bring about truth, sharing and better understanding.

The week finishes on 3 June, another significant date which is referred to as Mabo Day. This is the date when the High Court of Australia handed the decision that rebutted the myth that this land was ‘terra nullius’ empty upon first settled, discovered or invaded. This brought about Native Title to Traditional Owners.

Keep up to date of ways to recognise this year’s theme ‘All In’ by following others, learning more and getting involved to make this a better nation for all Australians.

💜💜What is National Sorry Day?💜💜
Each year, 26 May marks National Sorry Day, acknowledging the Stolen Generations — Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children forcibly removed from their families between the mid-1800s and 1980s — and the tabling of the Bringing them home report in 1997.

National Sorry Day 2026 marks the 29th anniversary of the tabling of the Bringing them home report in 1997. The Bringing them home report shared this history with the nation and made wide-ranging recommendations to address the enormous harm caused to Stolen Generations survivors and their families.

A generation on, many of these crucial actions have not been taken. We have lost many survivors over the decades since the report, and time is running out for those who are left to see justice.

Sorry without action is not enough.

This year’s national theme, From Sorry to Action, reflects expectations that governments take urgent steps to create tangible and measurable change within survivors’ lifetimes.
