Keeping warm without the worry.
Simple energy saving tips for winter.

As the temperature drops, it’s natural to want to keep your home warm and cosy. But winter can also bring higher energy bills. The good news? With a few simple changes, you can stay comfortable without adding extra strain to your budget.

Warmth starts with you:
One of the easiest ways to stay warm is by layering up. A warm jumper, thick socks, and a cosy blanket can make a big difference, sometimes even more than turning up the heater. If you’re sitting for long periods, try using a lap blanket or a hot water bottle to stay snug.

Make the most of your home your home can help keep the warmth in if you use it wisely:
- Open your curtains during the day to let in natural sunlight.
- Close curtains or blinds at night to trap heat inside.
- Keep doors closed so warm air stays where you need it.
- Even small steps, like placing a rolled towel under a door, can stop cold draughts from creeping in.

Smart heating habits:
- Heaters are helpful, but using them wisely can reduce costs
- Heat only the room you’re using
- Keep the temperature comfortable, not too high
- Turn off heaters when you leave the room or go to bed
- Use timers if your heating allows

A little help goes a long way.
Winter is a great time to look out for one another. A friendly check-in on a neighbour can make all the difference—and sometimes sharing time in a warm space can help both socially and financially. Staying warm this winter doesn’t have to mean higher bills—it just takes a little know-how.

Who knew Chaplain Mike had a secret talent?
At our recent Autism Awareness morning tea, Chaplain Mike took on a new role as trivia host! Movie stars, power drill noises, and theme tunes from the 70s and 80s were all on offer. Thanks, Mike, for bringing people together over food, laughter, and a great cause.

Well done to everyone involved.

Today marks the end of Reconciliation Week, a time of reflection and acknowledgement of both the historical and present-day experiences of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This week, and every week, we consider how we can contribute to a future shaped by understanding, respect, and justice as an expression of our faith in action to show that were "all in".

Scripture reminds us that through Christ, God made reconciliation possible and entrusted us to actively pursue restoration, healing, and unity in our relationships and communities.

“All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation.”
— 2 Corinthians 5:18 (NIV)

🏠 : for many longer-term social housing residents, the idea of moving to a smaller home can seem overwhelming — but it can also be an opportunity for a safer, more comfortable, and more connected way of living. At our recent downsizer workships, residents said some of the benefits included:

🏡 Living in a home that’s easier to manage
🛁 Enjoying safer, more accessible design
💬 Feeling less isolated and more supported
🌱 Reducing the stress of maintaining a large property
❤️ And for many, rediscovering independence and peace of mind

With the help of residents who have previously downsized from a large home to a unit, we want to help others explore the reality of moving to a smaller home. This is an ongoing project with residents' experiences at the centre — their reservations, what helped, and what they needed to make the process easier.

👀 More downsizer workshops are coming, so keep an eye on this page for dates and details. Got questions or concerns about downsizing? Please share them in the comments so we can bring them to our next workshops 👇

The people who access the social and affordable housing system -- their stories, aspirations and achievements -- reflect the rich diversity of Australian society. As a community housing provider, we’re glad to be able to offer people in need access to a safe, secure and affordable home where they can thrive.

The stable foundation subsidised housing offers has a critical role in building a fair, resilient society. In addition to great personal outcomes like improved health and education levels, the community housing sector also helps create greater workforce and economic participation, and ultimately contributes to strong, interconnected communities.

Whether someone requires housing support for a short period or is in need of assistance over many years, we're incredibly proud to be a meaningful part of our residents' unique journeys and the identities of the communities where we operate.

We believe that our work truly helps create great things for not just the people who call a Churches of Christ place their home, but the wider Queensland community too.

Last Thursday, together with members of the CYF South East Foster and Kinship Care team, community development worker Kasey had the opportunity to join the Logan City Elders for their Mother’s Day morning tea.

We connected with the Elders and community services through food and laughter over a game of country music bingo, while learning more about what is happening in Logan City from Councillor Teresa Lane Div 2 LCC.

☕ : today is International Tea Day?

A cuppa is not just a good way to warm up on chilly autumn mornings, or perfect for pairing with a biscuit – residents say, and we agree, that a good cuppa can be a perfect way to make a new connection.

Whether you're new to the community or your neighbour is, why not reach out and ask to have a cuppa with someone? It might be the start of a wonderful new friendship.
