🚨 Smoke Alarm Action Day 🚨

Did you know your smoke alarm could save your life β€” but only if it’s working properly?

Smoke Alarm Action Day is an important reminder for everyone to check that their smoke alarms are working and installed correctly in the home. Taking just a few minutes to test your alarms can make a life-saving difference. ❀️🏠

πŸ” Here are some important reminders:
βœ… Test your smoke alarms regularly
βœ… Check batteries and keep alarms clean and dust-free
βœ… Make sure smoke alarms are installed in the correct locations throughout your home
βœ… Did you know? ALL smoke alarms β€” regardless of type β€” must be replaced every 10 years!

Take a moment today to press the test button and check the date on your smoke alarms. A working smoke alarm gives you and your family valuable time to escape in an emergency.

Working smoke alarms save lives. ⏰πŸ”₯

The VicEmergency app will remain as Victoria's combined source of emergency information and warnings. AusAlert is a new tool that will be used across Australia for certain emergencies, in addition to VicEmergency

A new national warning system called AusAlert will be used across Australia from October 2026.

AusAlert will be able to send warning messages to your mobile device as push notifications during:
β€’ Natural hazards such as bushfires, floods, and tsunamis
β€’ Public health emergencies
β€’ Biosecurity incidents
β€’ Security threats

Before the system is introduced, it will be tested.
In Victoria, a local test will happen in the Geelong suburbs of Highton and Belmont on Thursday 18 June at 2 pm, followed by a national test on Monday 27 July at 2 pm.

More about the tests and rollout of AusAlert will be shared on the VicEmergency page in the coming weeks.
