Training Ship Kanimbla

Training Ship Kanimbla We welcome all that are 12.5 years to our multicultural unit.

14/11/2022

Training Ship Kanimbla is a major youth organisation giving young adolescents a chance to make friends and learn the history of the Royal Australian Navy. Our intake for the year 2023 is now starting to fill. We ask that parents with young boys and girls enquire about joining our establishment.

If your children are 12.5 years of age and fall 13 in that year. please enquire on how to join as an Australian Navy Cadet. We welcome all to our multicultural unit.

We parade every Wednesday in school term 17.40 to 2100 hrs and every second Saturday 0800 hrs to 1430 hrs.

Every cadet receives after a qualifying period three sets of uniforms on loan from the Royal Australian Navy and on completion these must be handed back.

The uniforms are Summer rig (white) S3
Winter Rig (Black) W3
DPNU Camouflage

All cadets are trained in aspects of the Navy and need to pass exams to proceed to the next level.

WELCOME TO THE INFORMATION PAPER FOR TRAINING SHIP KANIMBLA

The information following is to ensure what we do in the Australian Navy Cadets is applied for your understanding and of the fun we have in doing so. The unit in itself has been established for 15 years in various areas and is now settled within the Holsworthy Barracks Base in Liverpool. This ensures that your child is safe behind manned security posts. We aim to invite you to come and look at our establishment and see for yourself what we are achieving with youth in general and the activities that strive for learning.

Cadets are young people, like you, who usually meet once a week after school at their Navy unit, or on weekends. Our school-based units do their training during school time and/or on weekends. You'll learn basic skills like bush survival, first aid and field craft, and heaps more. Here are just some of the activities you can get to check out:
• Drill and Ceremonial Parades
• Drill and ceremonial is a military parade with the formation of cadets whose movement is restricted by close-order manoeuvring known as drilling or marching. With the Australian Navy Cadets (ANC) you will get to learn how to correctly navigate a group of cadets using basic moving techniques and use proper military courtesies, such as saluting and how to address ranking staff.
• Abseiling
• Cadets participate in abseiling and roping activities as part of obstacle courses and other adventurous activities. Such activities involve wearing a harness and helmet. The harness is then attached to a rope fixed above to a secure point and often, but not always, anchored below by someone else holding the rope. The participant is then able to lower themselves down the rope under controlled conditions with minimal physical exertion.
• Waterman ship
• Even though Australian Navy Cadets (ANC) are involved in many water-based activities, that doesn't mean you won't get to experience the adventures of camping!
• Together with the other Australian Defence Force Cadet organisations, you will be able to be involved in a wide variety of bush activities such as survival, map reading, cooking, first aid and camping.
• With the ANC you will be able to experience this and more!

• Use of Service Fi****ms
• Fi****ms training is a unique experience offered to Navy Cadets which has been influenced by the military traditions and culture.
• Cadet Fi****ms training aims to enable members to develop the knowledge, skills and attitude to handle, maintain, operate and fire fi****ms during the conduct of range practices. On an important note, it also teaches cadets involved in the training, respect for fi****ms and the safety requirements for handling a firearm.
• Fi****ms training involves each cadet undertaking a test of elementary training before shooting the firearm and then once at the point where the firearm is discharged the cadet will ALWAYS have a trained Australian Navy Cadet Force instructor member next to them as a coach. The instructor’s members are trained as coaches on the range as well as experts on the firearm. At no stage is any cadet left on the range with a firearm without a coach.
• Cadets will need to be able to have the physical strength to be able to operate the weapon and will be exposed to loud noises.
• Hearing protection is worn at all times on the range, however, the loudness of the firearm firing may initially cause anxiety in some Cadets who have not been exposed to fi****ms previously.

• Navigation
• The Australian Navy Cadets is an organisation situated around water, so you will get to experience many water-based activities such as Sailing.
• With the ANC you will get a chance to learn about sailing as well as getting qualifications and the watercraft skills related to preparing, launching, sailing and manoeuvring wind-powered boats. You will be taught by skilled ANC staff members who will walk you through all the necessary skills required to sail.
• This training is certificated by Yachting Australia and is accessible by cadets and adult volunteers alike.
• Some of the vessels that the ANC use are Corsairs, Envys and Springbank’s

• Living in the Field
• First Aid and many other exciting activities.
You can undertake tough adventure training and go bush, win marksmanship awards and qualify for the Duke of Edinburgh Award. As a Navy cadet, you'll also get to visit Navy camps and attend annual camps and participate in competitions during the school holidays.
"If I get a chance to talk about cadets or the Navy, I usually do. Anyone I tell about cadets usually asks what we do, so I tell them the cool stuff, using the on-land simulator to learn to sail, Morse code, reserve weekends, annual camps etc."
"It makes you proud to be in the Australian Navy Cadets, especially when everything you learned shows everyone else that cadets are cool."

“There is a lot more to learn so come on board for a great time”
