A journey of strength, purpose, and deep commitment to community. 🌿

We are incredibly proud to celebrate Martin Morris, the 2026 Gili Award winner for Health, Wellbeing and Human Services Student of the Year. 🏆

Martin returned to study at TAFE NSW not only to rebuild his career, but to ensure Aboriginal young people and families are supported with care and cultural integrity.

Beyond the classroom, Martin has been an essential voice for advocacy and healing, creating culturally safe pathways and programs that support social and emotional wellbeing across the community. 🖤💛❤️

“Something I always say to my kids, successful people do successful things. If you want to be successful don’t just lay on the lounge. Get up, do it and make sacrifices where you need to.”

Congratulations, Martin, on this well-deserved recognition of your leadership and impact.👏🏾

Anneliesje is supporting future Indigenous educators 📚✨

TAFE NSW teacher Anneliesje Brown is passionate about guiding young Aboriginal students into meaningful careers in education. Through the School-Based Apprenticeship and Traineeship (SBAT) program, she guides students to complete their Certificate III in School Based Education Support (CHC30221). They gain real experience in schools. Many, like Amelia, now have the confidence and skills to support classrooms and pursue further studies.

“At TAFE NSW, we’re empowered by strong, genuine relationships. This helps us be our best selves while living, learning, and walking gently on Aboriginal land. Working with Aboriginal students is an opportunity to support and celebrate their strengths and cultural knowledge. Many are now using their TAFE NSW studies to enter university or apply for Education Support Officer roles.” 🎓🌟

These roles are crucial for supporting learning outcomes, cultural safety, and ensuring classrooms and teachers receive help during delivery.

Amelia says, “I appreciated how Miss used yarning and the 8 Ways of Learning to support us. She had high expectations and ensured we all contributed. She focused on relationships and showed us their importance in our work.” 🌱📖

Claudia's Landscape Design in Full Bloom at the Easter Show 🐰🌿

“I never planned on becoming a teacher, but I absolutely love it. I enjoy seeing students’ faces light up when they learn new skills.” 🪴🌻

Eleven years ago, Claudia Crawley was a talented Diploma of Landscape Design (AHC50621) student at TAFE NSW - Ryde, winning a landscape design prize at the Sydney Royal Easter Show. Now she’s back – this time as a teacher for the same campus, leading the Sydney Royal Easter Show design for the TAFE NSW Display Garden.

Her design concept, ‘Country Comes to Town’, creates a calm and reflective social hub filled with autumn blooms, natives, and birch trees. 🍂 🍃

“The landscape design, horticulture and construction students and teachers at TAFE NSW - Ryde, TAFE NSW Richmond, and TAFE NSW - Padstow all work together to bring this design to life. The students grow different types of plants for the design from seed. It’s such a great project to be involved in.”

🧡 🌏 Harmony Week Spotlight: Dimitra is creating pathways through language 📙 🌏

As Head Teacher of English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students (ELICOS) and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) at TAFE NSW - Newcastle, Dimitra (Dimi) Roach has spent 16 years helping international students build the English skills they need to thrive in Australia.

Born in Australia to a Greek‑speaking family, Dimi knows firsthand the challenges of learning a new language and settling into a new culture. That lived experience shapes her focus on creating an inclusive and supportive environment where students feel seen, heard and valued.

Dimi said, “Helping students feel confident, supported and ready for their next step makes this work so rewarding.” ✨

Via a variety of programs, they're supported through transitioning into further TAFE NSW study, higher education, and professional accreditation, with many building new careers and futures in regional NSW.

Reflecting on her career, Dimi said: “I’ve been lucky to do this work for the past 16 years. It doesn’t feel like work because I love it.” 🧡🧡
