As you know, the memorial cross that we had made and installed on Luke’s birthday in May, was removed within 24 hours after a complaint and request to remove it was received and actioned by Whitsundays Regional Council 💔
We have now officially submitted an application to council, as they suggested, seeking approval for a permanent memorial for Luke at the place where he was killed.
The proposed example is a respectful, low-impact memorial featuring a memorial rock, plaque, and mosaic fish design incorporated into the existing garden bed which we feel encompasses Luke’s love of fishing and all things outdoors including his legacy to keep him travelling.
The memorial is about remembrance, healing, and creating a place where family, friends, and community members can reflect and remember Luke 🤍
It council requests evidence of community support, we would appreciate hearing from those who believe this memorial is important. If you support this proposal, please leave a comment below sharing why you believe Luke should be remembered in this way, what this memorial would mean to you, or why having a place of reflection matters to the community.
Thank you to Jeudi for the design and letter of support and also Asha for her supporting letter and to everyone who has continued to support us to keep Luke’s memory alive 🤍
