A fleet of around 130 aircraft are ready to help combat bushfires across Australia this summer.

The National Aerial Firefighting Centre secures and manages contracts for the aircraft on behalf of the state and territory governments.

These contracted aircraft are supplemented by additional state owned, state contracted aircraft and other aircraft hired to meet peak demand across Australia.

The aircraft are used for water bombing, transporting firefighters and equipment to remote areas, spotting and mapping fires, as well as dropping approved devices to ignite planned burns.

All of the aircraft are sourced from Australian Air Operator’s Certificate holders. The larger rotary and fixed wing aircraft are foreign registered aircraft, mainly from the USA and Canada.

In the event of a bushfire, make sure you don’t put aircraft pilots and other firefighters at risk – never fly drones near bushfires. Visit our website for more info - www.casa.gov.au/rpa
