Ok, grab a coffee cos itās story time.. āļø
Before I was pregnant with my second baby I already knew I was going to have a homebirth. Except I didnāt even know it was a legit option people actually chose. My thought process was just āthereās no fkn way Iām having my next baby in a hospital.ā
Then I found , went down a homebirth rabbit hole, and before I knew it I was pregnant and planning my own homebirth š„ŗ
I attended a meetup, listened to women sharing their stories, and loved the sense of community.
So obviously I had to start a local meetup group. Mainly because I knew literally NO ONE else who had a homebirth, and here I was planning my own š But also because, despite all the baby rhyme time groups and whatever else is out there, I still felt like I hadnāt found my people.
Itās now been almost 2 years, and Iāve met many women all with a unique story to tell.
Iāve realised that itās less about what our birth story is - and more about connection, and having a place where we feel welcomed and seen.
We may talk about homebirth a little. But we also talk about motherhood and all its beautiful challenges. All while feeding babies and chasing toddlers.
Our group is small, but itās bloody amazing.
And itās made me think about all the women who are also looking for community. A space where they can breathe, be themselves, and fill their cup. Somewhere aligned with their values, where they wonāt be judged for their choices.
I also recognise that homebirth is a privilege that is not accessible to everyone (even though it should be) - and I want to hold space for women on their homebirth journey, but I also want to create an inclusive space for anyone who feels that there is a place for them in our group.
Does that mean there might be a separate meetup in the future? Maybe (especially if thereās lots of interest).
