In celebration of International Women's day in March, KOWIN VIC is presenting the first event of 2025, "Inspire: Working Women's Story". We are collaborating with Empower Women for Australia and Korea (EWAK) group, an AKF Grantee of 2025. Nine professional women from Korea who are working as a director, head of department and ESG expert in global companies and renowned Korean firms will be part of our event.

The event will have a panel discussion with five women leaders in Australia and Korea across different fields, followed by small group networking session.

Come to Tone Coffee in Prahran on the 16th of March by 3.30pm to enjoy complimentary coffee by the world barista champion and delicious desserts. The ticket also includes a book, 누구보다 일에 진심입니다만, written by EWAK members.

Kowin had an opportunity to have a private dinner and interview with one of highly acclaimed Korean directors, Lee Joon Ik, who visited Melbourne for Korean Film Festival in Melbourne this year.

Two of his profound movies screened at the festival this year, which were:
The king and the clown 🤡
The book of fish 🐟

The King and the Clown is one of South Korea’s most popular and highest-grossing domestic films of all time. In its first four months of screening alone, sold a total of 12.3 million tickets and is grossed at US$74.4 million worldwide.

The film presents the tangled and complicated tensions of love, passion, lust and vengeance.

Film director Lee Joon-Ik has played a pivotal role in bringing South Korean cinema to audiences worldwide.

The director said:
“I have the complete conviction that it is possible and that people do learn a lot of history through film. To elaborate more, I feel like there are two ways of learning history. One way is through textbooks, and the other way is through film. But in the case of textbooks, I feel that both of them have facts and they’re trying to get to the truth but in the case of film, you have the facts and based on the facts, you work through a fictional platform in order to get through the truth that you want.”

Other notable films include Sunny (2008), Hope (2013), The Throne (2015), Dongju: The Portrait of a Poet (2016) and Anarchist from Colony (2017).

Although he is one of the most successful Korean directors, he was so humble and very generous with his time. Thank you for all kind words and your belief in Kowin. Hopefully we can meet again soon in the future!

With around 50 attendees, it was a fantastic opportunity for members to connect and get to know one another. KOWIN continues to be a great platform for building relationships across various industries.
