Renovations have commenced at Upper Ferntree Gully Fire Brigade - CFA with fencing now in place around the building site. Works are expected to be completed by the end of the year, and we see this as an exciting investment in our brigades future.
We'd like to stress that throughout the station upgrades we will be responding to all calls, training for the bushfire season, and maintaining our equipment as per usual.

Yes, we will be running on minimal facilities for a while, but this is short term pain for a long term gain!

Early risers this morning may have seen a column of smoke coming from the foothills of the National Park. Upper Ferntree Gully Fire Brigade - CFA members investigated and found a large burn pile which had been set alight.
Firefighters went about extinguishing the blaze, which included substantial blacking out of large logs. Some of our newest recruits were in attendance, and able to put their training into practice for the first time.

A big thanks to everyone involved in tackling Friday's Storage unit fire, and an amazing job by Scoresby Fire Brigade CFA for the incredible amount of work over the last few days.
Upper Gully sent several firefighters and equipment to assist in this mammoth task.
Our thoughts are with all those who have been impacted by this fire, with many in our community feeling this loss 💔

Last month, members of strike team 1392 were recognised with a CFA Chief Officer Unit Citation For Courage for their work in dangerous conditions during the 2019/2020 fires in Mallacoota.

This Strike Team worked for days under constant fire attack during the Mallacoota fires that devastated a large area of West Gippsland.

Last night at the brigade bi-monthly meeting, we honored 1st Lieutenant Darren Johnson on this well deserved recognition of his courage, dedication and service as part of Strike Team 1392.

1st Lieutenant Johnson's commitment and service to the Brigade and community make us all very proud.

Did you know there are around 3,000 house fires each year in Victoria? That's more than any other state. The house fire risk is highest in winter, when we're using our heaters and fireplaces the most.

Now's the time to make sure our homes are as safe as possible - here's how:

🔸 Check all smoke alarms are working and replace batteries. It's recommended to have a smoke alarm in all bedrooms, living areas and hallways.
🔸Keep all heaters, fireplaces and chimneys clean, as too much dust can create a fire hazard.
🔸Do not cover heaters with clothes, put clothes to dry or put any flammable items within 1m of a fireplace.
🔸Plug electric heaters into the wall, not a power board. Heaters use a high amount of electrical current which can overload power boards and increase the risk of electrical fires.
🔸Have a home fire escape plan no matter the size and type of home.

Volunteering with the CFA isn't all about running towards fire, far from it.

This morning, Upper Ferntree Gully Fire Brigade - CFA were responded after passers by spotted a goat caught in a fence. It's situations like these where members real world skills can be called upon (yes, there is even zookeeping experience within our ranks!).
Turn outs like these are not a waste of our resources. The brigades skills are put into practice, local knowledge is gained by members being out and about in our area, our equipment is used and maintained, and of course - an animals welfare is taken care of!

Our Goat friend was freed without issue or injury, and set off to continue it's vegetation control job with the council.

If you've ever considered Volunteering with your local CFA (Country Fire Authority), you might be surprised how useful your own unique skill set can be!
