Sandhill Dunnart Stories

Sandhill Dunnart Stories Conserving the elusive Sandhill Dunnart This is where we can help. So how can you help?

Until I started my PhD, I, like many people, was unaware of the plight of the endangered Sandhill Dunnart (Sminthopsis psammophila). The Sandhill Dunnart is just one of many Australian mammals threatened by extinction due to habitat loss, predation and more recently mining activities. Unfortunatley, not much is known of the Sandhill Dunnart, therefore detailed management plans for conservation hav

e not been implemented. My PhD is focusing on gathering important information on the Sandhill Dunnart, such as where it lives, when its breeding season is, movement patterns and how vulnerable the species may be to extinction. This information will help to develop a management plan which will protect the species for the future. In order to gather this information, many field trips are needed and many volunteers are needed. If you would like to volunteer let me know either via this page or email at [email protected]

I was lucky enough to return to the ol' stomping grounds last weekend and although we didn't do any trapping we did see a death adder, mulga snake & water birds! Amazed that there was water around this time of year :)
