This is what I’m sure is your 100th reminder… complete your Census tonight!

And don’t forget — it’s everyone in your household.

For Council, Census data really does matter. It helps paint the picture of who lives in our communities and supports the planning, advocacy and decisions that shape our region into the future.

BUT… having just completed mine, I can safely say that if I was in charge of writing the Census, I may have added a few extra questions. 😂

For Moranbah, I’m thinking:

👉 Do you measure distance in kilometres… or “about two hours to Mackay”?

👉 How many water bottles in your house are actually from a mine site?

👉 When someone says “the traffic was terrible this morning”, do you immediately ask: Peak Downs Highway or Goonyella Road?

👉 And the big one… how long have you lived in Moranbah before you’re officially allowed to call yourself a local? 👀😂

Our water storage levels have continued to fall and are now critically low.

At this crucial stage, we need the support of every household and business to reduce water consumption to essential use only while repair works continue.

We're asking the community to conserve water and avoid non-essential use as we manage reduced water levels following operational issues at the water treatment plant.

Council crews are working around the clock to restore normal operations and will continue to provide updates as work progresses.

UPDATE 4.30pm - Saturday, 8 August 2026

Council advises Clermont residents that operational issues at the Clermont Water Treatment Plant are continuing.

Residents are asked to restrict water use to essential purposes only until further notice. Continued community-wide water conservation is critical to maintaining adequate water supply levels while repairs are underway.

Council crews have been working continuously to repair the fault and restore normal operations. While progress has been made, water demand must remain as low as possible to support the town's water supply during this period.

Please avoid all non-essential water use wherever possible and only use the amount of water necessary for everyday needs.

The water remains safe to drink and use.

Council appreciates the community's patience and cooperation during this time and will continue to provide updates as work progresses and once the issue has been fully resolved.

🏉 This is Moranbah💗

What a great afternoon at the Moranbah Miners Rugby League Club, two very special games, plenty of footy and, as always, so many chats on the sidelines.

It was fantastic to celebrate Sam Jackson and an incredible 25 years as a Moranbah Miner. From running onto the field as an Under 6 in 2001 to still pulling on the Miners jersey in Reserve Grade today, that is loyalty, commitment and a genuine love of your club. Congratulations Sam, what an achievement!

There was also something much bigger than footy on the field, with our Under 20s pulling on their pink socks in memory of their former teammate Ethan Stevens. A beautiful show of mateship and a reminder that once you are part of a club and a community like ours, you are always part of it.

Between the games, the celebrations and so many conversations with people around the grounds, days like this really do show what Moranbah is all about.

Our community. Our people. Our town.

☕️ 20 years of La’Crema! ❤️

There are some people who underpin what makes a community great, and at its core, it always comes back to people.

People who turn up. People who give back. People who ride the very big ups and downs of living and doing business in a mining town. And, most importantly… people who make really great coffee!

It was an absolute pleasure to recognise Jenny Silva and celebrate an incredible 20 years of La Crema Caffe Moranbah.

For two decades, Jenny has pushed through the good years and the tough ones, supported countless local clubs, schools and community groups, provided jobs for so many locals, and created a meeting place that has become part of the fabric of Moranbah.

Jenny, Craig and family, congratulations on an incredible milestone, and thank you for everything you’ve given our community over the past 20 years.

Here’s to many more coffees and conversations! ❤️☕️

Sometimes the technology fails you… so you just tell your story.

A couple of weeks ago I tripped into Mackay represent Isaac Regional Council as a proud sponsor of the 2026 AMAQ Junior Doctor Conference in Mackay.

Now, was it ideal that my iPad decided to completely restart just as I was getting up to give my speech? Absolutely not. 🤦‍♀️😂

So, with no notes and no Plan B, I just jumped in and told my story.

I spoke about what having a GP in a small community really means.

Because in regional communities, our doctors are often so much more than the person we see when we’re sick. When many of us live away from our traditional family support networks, they are there through some of the hardest, scariest and most vulnerable moments of our lives.

For me, Dr Kuma, Dr Shultz, Dr Rowles and Dr Renyo have each been that person at different times over the years. I was proud to share a little of my own story and the hard times they have helped me navigate, because it puts a very human face to why attracting and retaining doctors in our region matters so much.

It’s no secret that we need more doctors choosing to live, work and build their lives in regional communities like ours. Events like the Junior Doctor Conference give us the opportunity to show the next generation of doctors not just where we live, but why we love living here.

A huge congratulations to Cherie Miller and the entire organising team, who did an incredible job showcasing the Mackay–Isaac region to junior doctors, medical students and health leaders from across Queensland.

And it was fantastic to see Clermont4Doctors front and centre, doing what they do so well — advocating for regional healthcare and making sure our smaller communities are part of the conversation.

Hopefully a few of those junior doctors left thinking that the Isaac region might just be the place for them.

And maybe next time I’ll print my speech. 😂

The smiles really do say it all! It was such a pleasure to present the very first Country Universities Centre Isaac Iberdrola AustraliaScholarships and congratulate some of the incredible local students receiving them.

Five Isaac region students have each received a $5,000 scholarship to support their higher education journey, studying in areas including nursing, accounting and engineering.

What I love most about these scholarships is that they’re not just about the financial support, although $5,000 can make a huge difference when you’re juggling course costs, travel, placements and everything else that comes with study.

They’re also about backing our local people and reminding them that living regionally doesn’t have to mean limiting your ambitions.

These students are studying, working and building their futures right here in the our town and judging by those smiles, I think they’re pretty excited about what comes next!

A huge congratulations to our inaugural recipients. It was a privilege to be part of this little milestone in your journey and I can’t wait to see where your studies take you.

And a very big thank you to Iberdrola Australia for investing in our local students and partnering with CUC Isaac to create opportunities like this in our region. And of course a huge thank you to our CUC Team who turned an idea into reality.

This is exactly what bringing degrees closer is all about.

Well… I’m not sure this was the kind of horsepower they had in mind when they called it Whispers of the West but what a fantastic night a couple of weeks ago at the Whitsunday Mayor’s Charity Ball 2026, raising much-needed funds for BMA CQ Rescue.

There were plenty of highlights throughout the night, but watching Andrew Willcox MP and Mayor Ry Collins - Whitsunday Regional Council galloping around on hobby horses is going to be pretty hard to beat.

But hey… all in the name of fundraising! And when it’s for a service as important as CQ Rescue, apparently dignity is optional.

A brilliant night of great people, plenty of laughs, generosity and a whole lot of Western spirit — all supporting the incredible emergency helicopter service that is there for our communities when we need it most.

Congratulations to everyone involved in pulling together such a fabulous night.
