It’s always a great day when traditional rivals meet on a Sunday and all roads lead to the Morwell Recreation Reserve today with the Tigers taking on the Maroons.

Six games of netball and 4 matches of football so there was a buzz around the ground!

With it being Sponsors Day at the Morwell Football Netball Club it was fantastic to see so many people in the luncheon and more impressively out on the brand new deck area enjoying the senior game.

After a lifetime of playing football against Jason Macfarlane back in the day (gee wizz he was a great player) we stepped out together in our lime green umpire tops and had a run around blowing the whistle. Just because Jock and I had to put glasses on after the game to do the paperwork doesn’t mean we are getting old!

Congratulations to the Tigers hierarchy for putting on a great day and I hope everyone has a safe long weekend and don’t forget to put your Big Freeze beanie on tomorrow in honour of the great Neale Daniher.

Great to visit Morwell Central Primary School and see Our Place Morwell in action.

It was a great to see what's possible when schools, early learning, health and community services work together in one place to support families.

Thanks to Elfie, Jen and the whole Our Place team for the warm welcome and for showing me what's happening on the ground here in Morwell.

Terrific to be out at the Morwell Gun Club this morning for the official opening of the Olympic Trench Range with my colleague Melina Bath MP.

The upgrades are significant for the Gippsland clay target shooting community as these are the only Olympic Trench ranges between Melbourne and Canberra.

It was wonderful to hear from Ken Balcombe about how this facility will now change the landscape for clay target shooters who live in the Gippsland region with a world class facility right on our own doorstep.

The volunteers who are the heartbeat of the Morwell Gun Club were justifiably proud that this day has finally arrived and with a full number of athletes on hand for day one, just showing how much of a game changer it will be.

Well done to everyone involved with the project and I look forward to our local shooters who will use this new facility, progressing through to representing Australia at both Olympic and Commonwealth Games in the future.

Nice to get out and enjoy lunch on a Friday and what better than the best parma in Victoria according to the AHA Awards at Newborough Hotel!

Can confirm it was absolutely delicious!

The Nationals' Fair Share Guarantee will ensure 25% of all infrastructure funding will go to the regions - that means more money spent here in the Latrobe Valley.

The term ā€œheroā€ is bandied around a lot, but today we lost a real one in Neale Daniher AO.

Neale earnt the respect of the footy world for his pursuits as a fierce and tenacious player, and later a universally-respected coach, but he’ll be most remembered for his work off the field.

Diagnosed with MND, or ā€˜The Beast’ as he called it, more than 12 years ago, Neale was resigned to his fate from the get-go but was determined to fight it until the very end and make change along the way.

Along with his remarkable family and band of supporters, he went on to raise more than $100 million for research into MND - a wicked disease with no treatment or cure.

More than the money, and more than the publicity, Neale was able to unite a country for a cause - to find a cure for The Beast - and along the way find a reason to enjoy life and smile. And that he did, every step of the way.

Life is not kind, he often said, but there is always light in the darkness as long as there is fight in the dog.

We are all better for having known him and poorer for his passing.

Vale, Neale Daniher.

Did you know that regional Victoria only receives 12% of the state’s infrastructure funding despite representing 25% of the population?

That will change under a Nationals and Liberals government.

Regional Victoria will get 25% of all infrastructure funding.

That’s our Fair Share Guarantee.

The Allan Labor Government was given $8 million by the federal government to complete the Bank Street intersection upgrades 7 years ago, but such is their incompetence they’ve asked for more cash to complete the project that’s already been funded.

We can safely assume they have heard your outrage and gone to the federal government with cap in hand, because they’ve been given an extra $5.2 million to complete the job in the recent Federal Budget.

The road upgrade was completed and the poles were installed in 2022, but the traffic lights were never connected… we’ve been given numerous excuses for this not happening including the Gippsland Line Upgrades and issues with railway signalling.

Thanks to my colleague Darren Chester MP for flying the flag at a federal level for this critical project, because without him it wouldn’t be happening given the Allan Labor Government hasn’t allocated a single dollar to the job.
