Places that used to be Parking #1 - Melville Plaza.

I love walking through this spot and appreciating the trees, playground, and places for people to sit. I have been coming here on Sundays for Melville Market my whole life, and remember when there were more stalls along this part of the carpark.

I am sure you will agree this is a much better use of space - somewhere that invites people to stop, meet and play.

Sure we need parking - but we don't need it everywhere.

We especially don't need it taking up all the valuable real estate in the middle of town centres, or right outside shopping centres, when we can reduce it a bit to have outcomes like this.

The Town of Mosman Park draft Urban Road Safety plan is out for consultation until August 9th.

Check out what is proposed via the survey on Your Say, and comment. You can read the consultants report and see the map of what is being proposed.

Do you think we need more pedestrian/zebra crossings? More or less traffic calming on a particular street?

I am very excited to say that LPP 43 - Preservation of Trees on Private Property was adopted unanimously at our June OCM.

Mosman Park residents looking to remove a "regulated tree" from their property will need to submit a development approval.

A regulated tree is one which has a canopy of at least 6m, height of at least 8m or trunk circumference of more than 1.5m.

We are trying to strike a balance between respecting the rights of property owners and maintaining tree canopy which is essential for the wellbeing of all of us. There are exemptions for situations where removal is genuinely necessary.

Massive kudos to our staff at the town for working through the various hurdles to get to this point!

Check out this project that transformed an area outside the Pear Tree Cafe! It happened quite some time ago but is a great inspiration for what a useless bit of concrete can become! Where would you like to see something like this!?

Check out the DPLH map of Mosman Park with the Urban Forest layer. You can see the canopy cover of the block where you live, or your street!

Does your neighbour have better canopy than you?... It is the right time of year to plant a tree and the $150 tree rebate is still on!

People vote for people focused streets! :)

đŸ—Łïž 'You can't win elections by challenging the car!'. WRONG! Real leaders do not fear change. They embrace it with courage and curiosity. Our congrats to Dominik Krause, Emmanuel GregĂŽire & GrĂ©gory Doucet!

ParisđŸ‡«đŸ‡·, LyonđŸ‡«đŸ‡· and MunichđŸ‡©đŸ‡Ș. Three different places. One shared story.

For years, there was a quiet warning in urban politics: don’t push too hard on reducing cars, don’t take away space, don’t move faster than people are ready for. And yet — that’s exactly what these leaders did.

In đŸ‡«đŸ‡·, Gregory Doucet leaned into the idea that streets could belong to children again. Not just as a slogan, but as something tangible: calmer roads, greener neighborhoods, places where parents don’t have to worry every time a child steps outside.

In đŸ‡©đŸ‡Ș, Dominik Krause’s campaign didn’t frame mobility as restriction, but as relief from congestion, from unsafe cycling, from streets that feel like they belong to traffic instead of people.

And in đŸ‡«đŸ‡·, this election builds directly on the legacy of who spent years reshaping the city, often against fierce resistance, turning riverbanks into public space and traffic lanes into bike paths.

What’s striking is not just that these ideas exist. It’s that people are voting for them.

Because once you’ve experienced a quieter street, cleaner air, or a city where a child can cycle safely
it stops feeling radical. It starts feeling obvious.

These elections suggest something deeper than a political trend. They show us that changing our streets changes what people believe is possible and what they’re willing to choose at the ballot box. They show us that the Hill of Hysteria and its pluralistic ignorance are real (see comments for our research on this)!

The story isn’t about being “anti-car.” It’s about being for the human scale in cities. And increasingly, that’s a story that wins.
