Lung Cancer Screening Awareness – Vietnamese Community !

A fantastic response from the Vietnamese community at our Lung Cancer Screening Awareness Session!

Dr Sadhana shared important information on lung cancer symptoms, diagnosis, screening eligibility and pathways to the hashtag , supported by Vietnamese hashtag . Participants were highly engaged, asking many questions and taking part in myth-or-fact activities, breathing exercises and our “I Love My Lungs” balloon activity.

A big thank you to hashtag and hashtag for partnering with us, hashtag for leading the breathing exercises, and hashtag for bringing together the talented musicians who added English and Vietnamese music to the day. Our Kids’ Corner also gave children a fun opportunity to learn about lung health through colouring.

This initiative was funded by hashtag and hashtag , supporting accessible lung health awareness within multicultural communities.

Talking about death, dying and grief is not easy. For many of us, these conversations can be even more complex because of cultural beliefs, family traditions, migration experiences and unfamiliarity with services in Australia.

Our ‘Dying to Know’ Community Forum is creating a respectful and culturally safe space for these conversations.

Let’s talk today. Come along to share, listen, ask questions and learn from experts about bereavement support, home funerals and available choices.

How confident are we in supporting someone who is grieving, socially isolated, or navigating the later stages of life?

Many of us want to help. Yet we often don't know what to say, what not to say, or where to direct someone for the right support.

Our Community Connector Training is designed to build these practical skills within our communities.

This interactive session will explore:
• How to provide compassionate support to people experiencing loss or difficult life circumstances.
• What to say, and what to avoid saying, when someone is grieving.
• How to signpost people to appropriate services, resources and community supports
• How to support people with dignity, respect and cultural sensitivity.
• Why conversations about death, dying and grief matter, and how strengthening community connections can improve wellbeing.

These conversations are often avoided because they feel uncomfortable. However, they are part of life. Learning how to respond with confidence and compassion can make a meaningful difference to individuals, families and our wider community.

Whether you are a community member, volunteer, community leader, professional, or simply someone who wants to better support others, you are warmly invited to join us.

ItsGoodtoKnow - Lung Cancer Awareness Campaign.

ECCWA is honoured to be part of this important initiative and will be delivering a series of lung health and lung cancer awareness sessions for diverse communities in Hindi, Arabic, Vietnamese, Cantonese, Mandarin and English, in collaboration with the hashtag (AMHC). Together, we aim to raise awareness, support early detection, and improve access to culturally appropriate health information.

Key Message:

There's a new hashtag .
Lung screening looks for lung cancer in the early stages, before symptoms start.
The lung scan is safe, quick and it could save your life.
The scan is free if you are eligible and you have a green or blue Medicare card.
You don’t need to feel sick to screen. Lung screening can help you stay healthy.
Lung screening is an important way you can look after yourself and be there for your loved ones in the future.
Over 65% of lung cancers can be successfully treated when found early.
If you're aged 50-70 and have a smoking history, you may be eligible.
Eligible people can have a free lung scan every 2 years.
Lung screening could give you more healthy years to spend with your loved ones.
Ask your doctor or healthcare provider about lung cancer screening.
If you need an interpreter at your appointment, ask your clinic about this when you are booking.

ECCWA, in partnership with the Vietnamese Women in Perth and Vietnamese Women WA, is hosting a Lung Health & Lung Cancer Screening Awareness Session for our community.

Led by health experts, the session will cover lung health and common symptoms of lung cancer, eligibility for free lung cancer screening, the value of early detection, and pathways to local health services and GP support.

Early detection saves lives, and initiatives like this help ensure culturally and linguistically diverse communities have equitable access to important health information.

ECCWA is hosting a Lung Health & Lung Cancer Screening Awareness Session, led by health experts and supported by the Hindu Council of Australia WA. The session will cover lung health and common symptoms of lung cancer, eligibility for free lung cancer screening, the benefits of early detection, how to talk to your GP about screening, and local health services and referral pathways.
