Tis the season of puddings and cheer and other such delights. While our team takes time to celebrate, relax and be with family, we've got you covered, Northcliffe folk, if you should find yourself in need of emergency assistance. We want to rush with you, excitedly toward 2026, but we'd prefer it weren't while rushing you to the hospital, so play safe, stay hydrated, stay cool (like us 😎) and have FUN.

It's Thank a First Responder Day πŸ’šβ€οΈπŸ©΅

And while it's just one day, it's a reminder of the gratitude and support we have for our first responders every day. To our first responders here at St John WA, our First Responder network, and to the teams at Department of Fire and Emergency Services WA and Western Australia Police Force - thank you for being there for our communities and keeping us safe and well.

πŸš‘ When volunteers have to fundraise for their own equipment, something’s gone wrong.

Bevan spoke about this on ABC Radio South West earlier this week β€” and clearly, the message landed.
This ABC article highlights what we’ve been hearing for months: in places like Pemberton and across regional WA, volunteer ambulance officers are being asked to give more and more, not just with their time, but with their wallets too.

Paramedics shouldn’t have to raffle meat trays and run sausage sizzles just to get basic gear.

It’s not sustainable, and it’s not fair.
We’ll keep raising our voices until these volunteers get the respect β€” and resources β€” they deserve.

We are not ambulance drivers.

We are the first on scene.
The first to hear the screams.
The first to feel the panic.
And sometimesβ€”the only hope someone has left.

While others sleep, we respond.
From zero to 100mph in seconds.
No diagnosis. No CT. No team.
Just training, instinct, and pressure.

We resuscitate in stairwells, treat trauma in traffic, deliver babies in living rooms, and hold the hands of those taking their last breathβ€”sometimes with no one else around.

And yet… too often, what they see is us parked outside a coffee shop.
They don’t see the 3-hour call we just finished with a coding infant and two parents we had to hold together with nothing but calm voices and tear-filled eyes.

They don’t see the emotional weight we carry between calls.
The decision-making under pressure.
The cost of being strong for everyone else.

They call us ambulance drivers.

But we are clinicians.
We are critical thinkers.
We are warriors with stethoscopes and hearts built for chaos.

To every paramedic and EMT out there:

You are seen.
You are respected.
And because you showed upβ€”someone gets to go home.

This is our story.

At this Saturday's Northcliffe Markets, show your support for your neighborhood ambulance service. Come take a look inside our van, and Northcliffe and Pemberton volunteer ambulance officers will be on hand to answer inquiries, collect donations, process annual subscription payments, and discuss volunteer opportunities.
Additionally, you can purchase WOOD RAFFLE tickets. Purchase first aid supplies, get your blood pressure and blood sugar checked. Most importantly, we love to chat, so stop by and say HI!

All donations and funds raised go toward the purchase of new vans and equipment.

See you Saturday! πŸš‘

There is a TOTAL FIRE BAN in place today and active fires nearby. Stay alert, stay safe and please stay away from burn areas. There is risk from falling branches above and smouldering embers at your feet as well as smoke inhalation.

Stay safe, because while we love catching up with you, we’d rather it be over coffee β˜•οΈ than in our van πŸš‘.

πŸ”₯ PLEASE NOTE: this bushfire warning has been updated for people in NORTH WALPOLE, SHANNON and BROKE in the SHIRE OF MANJIMUP. For the latest information visit www.emergency.wa.gov.au πŸ”₯

Stating the obvious…it’s HOT HOT HOT!
Stay hydrated, don’t leave anyone in the parked car and check on your senior and vulnerable folk, make sure they’re ok. πŸ₯΅

We know you've heard it a lot this summer, but we're in for another scorching week. πŸ₯΅

With temperatures set to crack the 40s, it's time to remember what we can do to beat the heat (or at least manage it).

Remember to stay hydrated, stay inside where possible, seek shade if you must go outside, if you don't have access to air-conditioning check out your local community centres and libraries, and most importantly check in on the vulnerable people in your life.
