𝗥𝗨𝗚𝗕𝗬 𝗟𝗘𝗔𝗚𝗨𝗘 𝗠𝗘𝗧𝗥𝗢 𝗖𝗨𝗣 𝗚𝗥𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗙𝗜𝗡𝗔𝗟𝗦

Our Rugby League Eagles recently took on the Metro Cup Grand Finals, with both our Year 8 and Open teams representing the Woods.

Year 8 | 24–14 WIN!
Our Year 8s put together an impressive performance against Wavell SHS to take the Grand Final victory.

Open Boys | Grand Finalists
Our Open team faced a very strong Ipswich side in a hard-fought contest. While they couldn't get the result on the day, their effort and determination never wavered.

Across both teams, our players demonstrated the qualities we value in our Rugby League program - resilience, teamwork, determination and a commitment to their teammates.

Congratulations to both teams on an outstanding campaign and for representing Ormeau Woods with pride every step of the way.

Our Year 9 Girls and Year 9 Boys have both been crowned SEQ Metropolitan Winners after incredible Grand Final performances on Monday!

Year 9 Girls | 8–0
A dominant display from start to finish!

Year 9 Boys | 2–2, winning 6–5 on penalties!
After an intense match that couldn't be separated in normal time, our boys held their nerve when it mattered most to take the title in a dramatic penalty shootout.

A huge congratulations to all the players who have represented these teams throughout the competition. Your commitment, teamwork and determination have been outstanding.

𝗜𝗡𝗧𝗥𝗢𝗗𝗨𝗖𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟳 𝗦𝗧𝗨𝗗𝗘𝗡𝗧 𝗟𝗘𝗔𝗗𝗘𝗥𝗦

As our Year 12 leaders prepare for the next chapter of their journey, it’s time for them to pass their knowledge on to the next generation of student leaders!

On Wednesday 9 September, our Year 11 students will come together for a special assembly as we announce our 2027 School Captains, Pillar Leaders and Prefects.

These students have been selected to take on important leadership roles within our school community and will work alongside our current student leaders before stepping into their new roles next term.

It’s a wonderful opportunity to recognise the students who will lead our school into 2027 and celebrate the beginning of their leadership journey.

𝗦𝗣𝗢𝗥𝗧𝗦 𝗟𝗨𝗡𝗖𝗛 𝗚𝗨𝗘𝗦𝗧 𝗦𝗣𝗢𝗧𝗟𝗜𝗚𝗛𝗧 – 𝗕𝗘𝗡 𝗛𝗔𝗡𝗡𝗔𝗡𝗧

A premiership winner, Queensland representative and Australian international, Ben Hannant knows what it takes to compete at the highest level.

Hannant played more than a decade of NRL football, winning premierships with the Brisbane Broncos in 2006 and the North Queensland Cowboys in 2015. He also represented Queensland 12 times in State of Origin and Australia in Test football.

Ben is also a familiar face in the Woods through his involvement as Head Coach of our Academy of Rugby League.

He’ll be joined by Adam Reynolds, Jordan Rapana and Todd Carney for what promises to be a fantastic afternoon.

Today we celebrate all the dads, stepdads, grandads and father figures who support, encourage, guide and cheer our Eagles every step of the way.

𝗦𝗢𝗔𝗞 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗧𝗘𝗔𝗖𝗛𝗘𝗥 – 𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗔 𝗦𝗣𝗟𝗔𝗦𝗛!

What an incredible effort from our Woods community.

Our Soak the Teacher fundraiser was a huge success, with students getting the chance to soak some very brave teachers, all while raising vital funds for MND Australia.

A huge thank you to Mr Morrison, Mr Millward, Ms Brashaw, Mr Dyer, Mr Crawford and Dr Hassard for putting their hands up to get soaked for such an important cause, and to our Student Leaders who worked behind the scenes to bring the event to life.

Over $700 was raised in just one lunch break, and a whole lot of fun was had. What an achievement!

Thank you to everyone for getting behind such an important cause.

𝗦𝗣𝗢𝗥𝗧𝗦 𝗟𝗨𝗡𝗖𝗛 𝗚𝗨𝗘𝗦𝗧 𝗦𝗣𝗢𝗧𝗟𝗜𝗚𝗛𝗧 – 𝗧𝗢𝗗𝗗 𝗖𝗔𝗥𝗡𝗘𝗬

A Dally M Medal winner, NSW Origin player and one of the most naturally gifted playmakers of his generation, Todd Carney brings plenty of stories to the table.

Carney enjoyed standout periods with the Canberra Raiders and Sydney Roosters, winning the 2010 Dally M Medal, along with the Five-Eighth of the Year and Provan-Summons Medal.

Now, he’ll be swapping the football field for the microphone as he joins Adam Reynolds, Ben Hannant and Jordan Rapana at the OWSHS P&C Sports Lunch.

Expect stories from an incredible rugby league career, plenty of laughs and an afternoon you won’t want to miss.

There will be no classes for students, so our Eagles can enjoy a well-earned long weekend!

Our staff will be at school taking part in a Professional Development Day, continuing to build their skills and knowledge to support our students.
