Young people have different needs and experiences, but many want the same things: opportunity, independence, and a say in decisions about their future. ‌

This International Youth Day, the theme “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations” recognises that while every young person's circumstances are different, everyone deserves the opportunity to participate in decisions that affect their lives.

Our Public Guardian team helps young people, families and support networks learn about guardianship and making decisions.

Loneliness can affect anyone, regardless of age, background or circumstances. This year's Loneliness Awareness Week theme, ‘Make Room for Connection’, encourages us to create space for meaningful conversations and stronger relationships. A simple conversation can make someone feel seen, heard and supported.

For some people, including older people, people living with disability and those with limited social support networks, staying connected to family, friends and community can play an important role in their wellbeing.

At NSW Trustee and Guardian, we support many customers through significant life experiences. We know that feeling connected to others can help people feel more supported, informed and included.

Planning for the future isn't always easy, but having access to trusted information can make all the difference.

Our Taking Charge of Your Tomorrow expos in Wagga Wagga and Albury brought together NSW Trustee and Guardian, other government agencies and community organisations to help people better understand wills, Powers of Attorney, Enduring Guardianship and other important planning ahead decisions.

Attendees also had the opportunity to ask questions, connect with local support services and speak directly with our Wills and Estate Planning team.

One attendee said:

This year's NAIDOC Week theme, 50 Years of Deadly, celebrates 50 years of recognising and elevating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voices, cultures and achievements.

To mark the week, NSW Trustee and Guardian staff came together for a NAIDOC Week trivia event, providing an opportunity to learn more about First Nations history, cultures, languages and achievements while connecting with colleagues from across the organisation.

NAIDOC Week is an important opportunity to celebrate the enduring knowledge, contributions and leadership of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and to reflect on how we can continue learning and listening.

Thank you to our Aboriginal Advocacy team for helping make this year's event such a success.

Our leaders from across NSW Trustee and Guardian recently came together for our annual Leadership Forum, a day focused on learning, connection and leadership growth.

Under the theme ‘Leadership that makes a difference’, leaders shared experiences, explored new ideas and reflected on how strong leadership helps create positive workplaces and better outcomes for customers.

The Forum featured discussions on workplace wellbeing, resilience, cultural understanding and leading through change, along with insights from guest speakers including Rebecca Pinkstone, CEO of Homes NSW, Kate Curtain from Kingston Reid and Heizy Serrels from the Learning and Wellbeing Centre for Corporate Health.

Investing in leadership is ultimately an investment in our people. By continuing to develop our leaders, we're building stronger teams and creating the conditions for better outcomes for the people who rely on our services.
