er Holroyd City Council advertised for a public meeting to be held to determine interest and public support for the formation of a group of friends to discuss the preservation and rehabilitation of the cemetery. Until the 1970's, Mays Hill Cemetery was Crown Land managed by Trustees from the Presbyterian and Baptist congregations. The Trustee system eventually lapsed and Holroyd City Council became the sole Trustee of the cemetery in 1993. In 1997, restoration work on 70 headstones was completed and that restoration work has continued over the years. The Friends have continued to raise money for restoration works and since the formation of the group, hundreds of headstones within the cemetery have been restored. The Friends of Mays Hill Cemetery have also done research on most of the people interred in the cemetery and have been able to assist many members of the public with family history research enquiries.
